BUILDING KIWA SCM-COMPLIANT SECURITY SOLUTIONS WITH FMC234

In today’s telematics and vehicle security landscape, compliance is no longer optional - it is a market requirement and sign of trust. It ensures that hardware, software, and installation processes meet strict, independently verified standards for reliability, security, and performance.

SECURITY BACKED BY STANDARDS

In Europe, the rising issue of vehicle theft brings strong focus on security and theft prevention measures. In just one hour, 7 vehicles are stolen in the UK, 8 in France, and 10 in Italy. This represents a significant pain point for businesses, many of which are introducing strict regulations on device requirements as well as entire stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) processes in order to reduce losses.

There are several widely recognised compliance standards across Europe, including Kiwa SCM in the Netherlands, Thatcham Research in the UK, and Forsikring & Pension in Denmark. They all ensure that the solution complies with strict certification criteria and provides a high level of vehicle protection.

To meet the requirements of such compliance standards, a hardware manufacturer and a software provider must work together to deliver an approved solution for the end user, including certified hardware, a stable communication setup, and correct installation instructions.

KEY COMPONENTS OF KIWA SCM COMPLIANCE

As mentioned, to get the certification, a full solution – both hardware and software – must comply with the stated requirements. A tracking device must work autonomously for a certain period of time, have a durable casing, and be suitable for the anti-theft use case. For example, Teltonika’s FMC234 device can operate for up to 8 days without external power and has a robust IP67-rated casing, which protects the device against dust and water.

When it comes to the operational process and software part, the company must ensure quick reaction in case of alerts and guarantee a clear recovery process by efficiently connecting the vehicle, its owner, certified alarm receiving centre, and the police.

KIWA SCM-COMPLIANT SOLUTION BY CONNEQTECH & TELTONIKA

While a tracking device in Kiwa SCM-approved solution must include essential anti-theft capabilities, such as immobiliser scenarios, ignition detection, and automatic geofencing, simply having these features in a GPS tracker is far from enough. That is where our partners come in.

Based in the Netherlands, Conneqtech, an IoT expert in mobility and connected assets, has been delivering smart mobility solutions since 2015. Together, they combine Teltonika’s FMC234 device, connectivity, web platform, mobile app, integration capabilities, service, and support into a single Kiwa SCM-certified solution – SecureTrack.

“We build solutions in which data becomes workable in daily operations, as we do not believe in data sitting in a separate platform without context,” shares Tommie Bogaers, Proposition & Business Developer at Conneqtech. “The difference is that a certified recovery solution is purpose-built for security and theft recovery, whereas standard telematics is usually built for visibility and operational insight.”

ONE STEP AHEAD OF COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

To meet wide-ranging compliance requirements under increasingly strict regulations, Teltonika’s partners can rely on our solutions.

“We are continuously improving by developing new technologies and expanding our product portfolio. While FMC234 remains a strong and widely adopted choice for compliance with current regulations, new devices on the FT platform will set a new standard for meeting such criteria,” shares Gvidas Narkevičius, product owner at Teltonika.

Our upcoming FT platform-based FTx164 trackers combine unique Power Off sleep mode, which offers up to 4× lower power consumption, and high-capacity battery to enable autonomous device operation for months. Besides, the new models come with IP69K-rated casings for ultimate durability.
