WEBINAR TAKEAWAYS: EYE SEES MORE WITH WIREPAS MESH

Indoor asset tracking is becoming a key focus for businesses worldwide. As operations increasingly move inside warehouses, hospitals, and industrial facilities, maintaining visibility of assets remains a persistent challenge. Industry insights highlight rapid growth in the indoor location market, expected to expand from $11.9 billion to $31.4 billion to 2029, driven by the need for better customer experience and smarter buildings. At the same time, traditional technologies such as Bluetooth® come with limitations when scaling across larger sites.

To address these challenges, Teltonika hosted a webinar, EYE SEES MORE WITH WIREPAS MESH, where we explored how Mesh technology expands the capabilities of the EYE device ecosystem and enables efficient indoor asset tracking. The session covered key limitations of existing approaches, introduced new EYE Beacon Mesh and EYE Sensor Mesh tags, and demonstrated how businesses can achieve both scalable and cost-effective tracking across large facilities.

LIMITATIONS OF TRADITIONAL INDOOR TRACKING

Bluetooth® technology remains a common choice for indoor tracking. It enables communication between EYE devices and trackers, which collect and forward data to backend systems. However, in larger environments, this approach becomes harder to scale, as expanding coverage requires additional trackers, each needing installation, power supply, and connectivity. This increases infrastructure complexity and overall deployment costs.

Device density presents another limitation. A high number of Bluetooth® devices in one area leads to signal overload and reduced data reliability. As the number of devices grows, maintaining stable performance becomes more challenging.

A SCALABLE APPROACH WITH EYE MESH TAGS

Wirepas Mesh technology introduces a different communication model where devices communicate with each other and forward data across the network until it reaches a gateway. This approach is enabled by the new EYE Beacon Mesh and EYE Sensor Mesh devices, designed for reliable indoor asset tracking and monitoring. These battery-powered tags support scalable deployments without complex infrastructure.

The mesh network is supported by anchors, which relay data between devices, and gateways, which connect the network to backend platforms. This structure ensures efficient data flow while keeping infrastructure requirements low.

The network handles high device density, reduces the need for gateways, and maintains stable communication across large sites. With its self-healing capability, data is automatically rerouted if a device becomes unavailable, ensuring continuous operation in complex environments.

Q&A

At the end of each of our webinars, we host a live Q&A session. Below, you will find some of the participants’ questions along with answers from product owner, Vytenis Kibildis

What is the communication range between tags, anchors, and gateways?

Typical communication range is 10–20 meters indoors and up to 100–200 meters outdoors, depending on the environment. In real-world deployments, spacing is planned for reliable connectivity and positioning, not maximum range.

What is the battery lifetime of EYE Mesh devices?

Battery lifetime can reach up to 10 years, depending on configuration, update intervals, and network load.

What is the positioning accuracy of the solution?

Indoor positioning accuracy typically ranges from 1 to 5 metres, depending on anchor placement and environmental conditions, including metallic surroundings

How many devices can be supported in one network?

Mesh networks are designed for large-scale deployments. For example, tens of thousands of tags can be supported with only a few gateways, depending on configuration and data transmission intervals.

Is Mesh network communication secure?

Yes. Communication within the network supports AES128 encryption, ensuring secure data transmission between devices.

What is required to start a deployment?

A typical setup includes EYE Beacon Mesh or EYE Sensor Mesh tags, anchors, a gateway, and a software platform for data visualisation and management.
