INTRODUCING HIGH-PRECISION DAMAGE DETECTION SOLUTION FOR CAR RENTAL AND DELIVERY FLEETS

22/07/2026

Fleet operators, delivery service providers, rental companies, and insurers face the same challenge every day – vehicle damage often goes unnoticed until it becomes a costly problem. To address this, we introduce a new AI-powered damage detection solution built on the FTC887 tracker and advanced motion data analysis technologies trained on more than 1 billion kilometres of real-world driving data. The solution enables automated detection of damage events, helping businesses reduce operational costs by fully automating the claims process, and improving fleet visibility.

FROM VEHICLE DATA TO DAMAGE INSIGHTS

At the core of the solution is Teltonika’s FTC887, a battery-mounted tracker designed for fast and simple installation. The device continuously collects high-resolution motion and acceleration data, capturing vehicle dynamics and impact-related events in real time. The gathered data is securely transmitted for advanced analysis, where artificial intelligence models evaluate movement patterns and identify damage events.

Unlike traditional approaches based solely on acceleration thresholds, AI algorithms analyse the context of vehicle movement and distinguish actual damage-causing events. This enables accurate detection of minor impacts, dents, scratches, and other incidents that might otherwise remain unnoticed.

TRAINED ON MORE THAN 1 BILLION KILOMETERS

The intelligence behind the solution is based on AI models trained using more than 1 billion kilometres of real-world driving data. This extensive dataset enables the system to recognise subtle motion patterns associated with damage-causing events and distinguish them from normal driving situations. Rather than simply reacting to acceleration peaks, the AI evaluates the direction, duration, and characteristics of vehicle movements to identify incidents with a high degree of accuracy.

As a result, the solution detects damage events that may be too minor to trigger conventional threshold-based systems, providing fleet operators with greater visibility into vehicle condition and helping ensure that the damage is identified as soon as it occurs.

AUTOMATING THE DAMAGE MANAGEMENT PROCESS

Once a damage event is detected, the solution automatically initiates the next steps in the workflow. Drivers are requested to provide vehicle photos, which are then analysed using image recognition technologies. The system evaluates the collected information, identifies newly occurring damage, and generates detailed reports that can be used for automated fleet management or claims handling.

By automating the process from event detection to documentation, businesses can significantly reduce manual inspections and accelerate damage assessment procedures.

KEY BENEFITS FOR FLEET OPERATORS

The new solution helps businesses improve operational efficiency in several ways:

  • Early detection and assignment of damage and misuse events

  • Reduced manual inspection workload

  • Fully automated and highly accurate claims processing

  • Improved fleet availability and utilisation

  • Better visibility into vehicle condition throughout its lifecycle

  • Enhanced vehicle residual value through comprehensive damage history

These advantages are particularly valuable for rent-a-car companies, last-mile delivery fleets, and insurance providers, where vehicle condition directly impacts profitability and customer satisfaction.

9 out of 10 damages – recovered.  The system resolves over 90% of damage cases with a complete, ready-to-claim report – GPS location, timestamp, photos, and clear driver accountability.

90% less effort – fully automated. Detection, driver communication, photo collection and damage documentation happen automatically. No manual inspections. No chasing. No ambiguous cases.

Up to 50% fewer damages. When drivers know they are accountable, behaviour changes. Customers typically see 30–50% fewer damage incidents over time.

NEXT STEP IN DAMAGE DETECTION

As fleet operations become increasingly data-driven, businesses require more than location tracking alone. The ability to automatically detect, document, and assess vehicle damage creates new opportunities to reduce costs, improve customer experience, and optimise daily operations.

With the combination of advanced telematics hardware and AI-powered analytics, we continue to expand the possibilities of connected fleet management and help customers gain greater value from vehicle data.
