PRECISE TRACKING IN COMPLEX ENVIRONMENTS WEBINAR: KEY TAKEAWAYS
20 August 2025
As cities across the world grow, traditional location tracking struggles to keep up. Satellite signals bounce off glass, get blocked by concrete, and vanish into city canyons. For businesses that rely on precise tracking, accurate GNSS positioning is more important than ever. Teltonika’s telematics division recently hosted a dedicated webinar exploring how to overcome these challenges and ensure reliable tracking even in the most demanding environments.

WHY PRECISE GNSS IS IMPORTANT?
One of the main challenges caused by inaccurate GNSS data is unreliable odometer readings. When GPS data does not align with actual odometer values, it can distort reporting accuracy, disrupt fleet maintenance schedules, and even lead to compliance issues.
Another major concern is tracking jumps and speed zone errors. If GNSS signals are unstable and the system incorrectly places the vehicle on a nearby road with a lower speed limit, it may falsely flag the driver for speeding. Such discrepancies can easily lead to confusion, disputes, and unnecessary investigations.
Finally, false geofence events are especially problematic in high-value logistics. Inaccurate positioning can trigger incorrect alerts, causing unnecessary panic, delivery delays, and mistrust over the safety of assets.
TELTONIKA’S SOLUTIONS FOR ACCURATE GNSS DATA
FT platform is a new-generation technology with a firmware running on a brand-new hardware base, which is built around the latest GNSS chipset and packed with advanced innovations. It is designed specifically for higher precision, better signal handling, and operation in complex environments.
Teltonika’s next-gen devices connect to all four major satellite constellations simultaneously. This nearly doubled the number of visible and used satellites up to 41, delivering a 1.4× improvement in GNSS tracking accuracy.
What are the benefits of FT platform trackers?
– Odometer and GPS data match accurately
– Reliable shared vehicle location
– Fewer false geofence events
– Better fleet visibility & trustworthy data
Q&A
At the end of each of our webinars, we host a live Q&A session. Below, you will find some of the participants’ questions along with answers from our experts.
How do I get access to Teltonika’s FT platform?
FT platform refers to our new-generation hardware and firmware architecture. It is not a separate website or portal. If you are interested in learning more about the FT series devices, including supported models, firmware capabilities, and availability, please contact your Teltonika sales manager. They will provide detailed information and assistance tailored to your needs.
How can I minimise the power consumption of the tracker to avoid draining my vehicle’s battery?
Every Teltonika device has reliable hardware and several sleep modes that can be configured and help reduce power usage and extend battery life. These modes include:
GPS sleep – GPS is turned off to save power, but the device continues making periodic records.
Deep sleep – both GPS and GSM modules are off, making this the most efficient mode to save records and transmit data later.
Online deep sleep – GPS is off, but GSM remains active to send or receive SMS, as well as make and accept calls.
Ultra deep sleep – All modules are off ant the device only wakes only upon specific triggers, making it ideal when no data is required.
Power off sleep – FMB965, FMB930, and all FT platform devices can power down to under 1mA.
Keep in mind that FT platform devices support all these sleep modes and are even more energy-efficient, achieving lower power consumption with the same settings.
Do FT platform trackers work in locations with no network, for example, a desert?
In open environments like deserts, where GNSS is typically available but GSM or LTE network coverage may be missing, the tracker will continue logging positions and transmit the data once connectivity is restored.
What is the dead reckoning feature?
Dead reckoning is a feature that allows the tracking device to estimate its position even when the GNSS signal is temporarily lost, for instance, in tunnels, underground parking lots, or urban canyons. It uses internal sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, and vehicle speed input to calculate the approximate position based on the last known GNSS fix, direction, and movement. This ensures more continuous and reliable tracking, especially in areas with poor satellite visibility.
Which FT platform devices support manual CAN?
The currently available FT series devices with manual CAN support are FTC305 and FTM305. Both models are already in production.
For more information, please visit the FTC305 product page or contact your Teltonika sales manager. You can also reach out to our Support team via the HelpDesk system for technical guidance.
