  • Airport Ground Vehicle And Asset Tracking

Airport ground vehicles, equipment, asset tracking utilising Teltonika GPS trackers, Bluetooth® ID beacons, 1-Wire technology AIRPORT GROUND VEHICLE AND ASSET TRACKING INTRO Today's major airports and air travel play an important role in modern society. They facilitate trade and tourism, provide jobs and useful services, generate economic growth and contribute to national budgets. At the same time, air transport is one of the riskiest and most complex businesses. This makes comprehensive tracking and monitoring of airport ground vehicles and assets not just an attractive option, but a necessity. CHALLENGE The largest airports are the pacemakers of today’s life, filled with thousands of passengers, staff members, contractors, security personnel, special ground vehicles, shuttles, ground support equipment (GSE), and plenty of valuable assets. According to Airports Council International’s (ACI) annual reports , the number of passengers served at the top 50 busiest airports worldwide is 44 to 110 million in the year 2019, and 15 to 44 million in 2020. To some extent, these airports are cities of their own, reaching a market value of billions of US dollars. As a business, airports need to consider and think through their vehicles to drive sustainability and equipment maintenance, capacity management, competition from other hubs, improving their safety and security, dealing with revenue challenges, reputation and environmental impact. Speaking of the environment, the use of electric GSE in airport fleets is gaining popularity today, as lithium-ion-based machine types help combat rising fuel and maintenance costs while intelligently saving energy for the equipment daily. In addition, the use of electric tow tractors, cargo loaders, cargo transporters and passenger boarding bridges can reduce emissions of particulate matter and greenhouse gases. Even more, within sizable buildings such as airports, managers and team leaders may spend a considerable amount of time managing and finding in real-time what they are looking for and accountable for - vehicle fleets, equipment, people, goods, and assets. So to say, even the best staff training, drills, cameras and walkie-talkies will not solve these challenges. Neither the old-fashioned ‘pen and paper’ methods causing errors, havoc, frequent misunderstandings or even dishonesty and time-consuming disputes. Even more, the COVID-19 pandemic is having significant implications on the aviation industry today, and they have to be considered for sure. Hence, is there any way to overcome these obstacles and reap the benefits of vehicle telematics, GPS location and other relevant data tracking, Bluetooth® technology, and positioning indoors to optimise business operations in airports? Yes, it is, and that is where Teltonika's wide range of product portfolio and expertise come in very handy. SOLUTION To make it easier to grasp the concept, we structured the solution in three parts - ground vehicle and equipment tracking, indoor tracking solutions, and driver and operator tracking. Let's go through them in more detail... Airport ground vehicles and ground support equipment tracking. Large contemporary airports may utilise an impressive variety of them - pushback tugs, catering trucks, de-icing vehicles, snow-ploughing, -sweeping and -blowing vehicles, passenger boarding stairs, electric container loaders and transporters, water and refuelling trucks, fire brigade trucks, ‘follow me’ and other airport-service cars, indoor passenger e-carts, apron and shuttle buses, dollies with cargo pallets and unit load devices, catering vehicles, etc. All of them have to be simultaneously tracked, monitored, maintained, and managed properly, timely, and safely. To achieve that with minimum effort and maximum results, we use here the PROFESSIONAL category Teltonika vehicle tracker FMM650 . This is a comprehensive terminal for professional applications designed and manufactured for complex and the most demanding vehicle tracking solutions, where one GPS device can effectively perform multiple tasks, and support various 3rd party devices to maximise fleet efficiency. Thanks to integrated FMS CAN bus data (SAE J1939 protocol) and CAN bus data ( J1708 protocol) readings, abundant features including Bluetooth® connectivity and usage scenarios set, FMM650 model allows tracking sensible parameters of interest of all diesel and electric types of vehicles and equipment mentioned above. Afterwards, Teltonika GPS device sends the gathered data, combined with its GNSS location details, to a dedicated server for timely analysis, monitoring, and unbiased decision-making based on actual data. To mention a few parameters, it might be a truck or shuttle bus location coordinates, fuel consumption, fuel level, vehicle mileage and speed, engine faults notifications, seat belt status, headlight status, overspeeding detection, excessive idling and/or crash detection, trip scenario, auto geofencing, etc. The result? The main benefits are maximised airport ground fleet productivity, greatly improved worker safety and discipline, optimised workflow, vehicle utilisation and preventive maintenance procedures, reduced downtime, wasted time and valuable company resources, etc. It helps to optimise key routines associated with the airport ground fleet and can significantly improve operating costs, business efficiency and return on investment. Indoor tracking. Here we discuss further indoor positioning, tracking and navigation in airports specifically for Teltonika GPS trackers in combination with Bluetooth® Low Energy beacons, small ID radio transmitters. They repeatedly transmit signals unique to each of them and GPS devices read and identify every one of them. Bluetooth® connectivity is used here because GPS signals often are not accurate enough to be practical indoors or in narrow streets and gaps as they diminish and scatter. For the sake of the example here, we choose the ADVANCED category Teltonika FMM130 model. In this case, these GPS devices are permanently mounted on a ceiling or upper part of a wall in airport premises and terminals, baggage handling areas, building hallways, stairways, parking facilities, etc. and used as signal gateways, whether Bluetooth® LE ID beacons are attached to assets and people of interest. Teltonika GPS trackers support up to 100 beacons at a time and each of them will continuously work, depending on the model, around 2 to 10 years on a single battery. Possibilities and benefits are remarkable - airport hand trolleys and wheelchairs tracking, various items tracking on container loaders and luggage transporters, staff personal transporters , tracking of expensive tools in the hangars and workshops, coordination of security, contractors or any other workforces, etc. Learn more about how it works here . The key benefits - far better organisation of operations, administration, and space utilisation, reduced search times, theft protection and management of the airport, staff and passenger assets, increased security and timing accuracy, significant cost savings, improved customer service and reputation. Automated drivers’ and operators’ identification and time tracking. To address this significant challenge and help airport management run a smooth and efficient business, we propose a practical, present-day solution - an automated driver identification and timekeeping system using GPS trackers mounted on ground vehicles and related accessories. The approach is based on the 1-Wire communication bus system combining a contactless Radio-frequency identification (RFID) card, 1-Wire RFID reader , and Teltonika GPS tracker model compatible with 1-Wire communication (in this case - FMM650). Each and single RFID card has a unique factory-programmed 64-bit identification number which is used for a driver’s (or operator’s and maintenance personnel's) authentication and the exact electronic date and time stamp. 1-Wire RFID reader has to be mounted in a vehicle dashboard and connected to a GPS tracking device. Learn more about how it works here . Alternatively, Teltonika EYE Beacons can also be used for driver identification. Here to add, based on comprehensive data gathering and dedicated 3rd party software, the method allows not only unquestionable identification but to calculate automatically and precisely lunch break deductions, holidays, sickness absence, overtime, downtime, travel times to a project site, relevant expenses, allowances, evaluate workforce discipline, etc. TOPOLOGY #1 TOPOLOGY #2 BENEFITS Smooth airport operations and outstanding efficiency – 100% accountability of everything important to the business - ground vehicles, equipment, goods, valuable assets, processes, patterns, and personnel actions are being tracked, monitored, and optimised. Remarkable Teltonika GPS tracker FMx650 series functionality to serve airport fleet needs - built-in CAN bus data reading feature, flexible configuration, thorough I/O set, multiple usage scenarios, and plentiful benefits to optimise ground vehicles management, lower its running cost, and improve ROI. Automated hassle-free drivers’ and operators' time tracking, monitoring, and management - accurate and easy-to-use personnel including drivers clocking method utilising 1-Wire technology, relevant vehicle GPS trackers, and accessories. Data are accessible anytime and anywhere via PC, tablet, and smartphone. Boosted workforce discipline, desired vehicle and equipment usage habits, and work ethics - constant airport fleet drivers’ routine events tracking and monitoring in combination with an appropriate motivation system in place will improve company reputation, optimise a workflow and its running cost. Customisable solutions for every project and premise to get the maximum value out of it. For instance, Bluetooth® LE ID beacon signal strength and data transmitting intervals can be configured to exact project application needs and used in, practically, any form and size buildings. Positive environmental impact – utilise electric vehicles and machinery to help minimise the environmental footprint and contribute to sustainability efforts. WHY TELTONIKA? • GPS Trackers For Waste Transport Management

Teltonika PROFESSIONAL GPS trackers are the most suitable devices for heavy-duty vehicles tracking in the most demanding use cases WASTE TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT INTRO Waste management is one of the most important issues of this decade, as it is related to waste recycling and environmental protection. Waste management involves the use of specialised equipment, so a dedicated solution is required to prevent misuse and ensure optimal and safe use. Teltonika GPS devices can help to achieve these goals. CHALLENGE Many countries around the world lack the capacity to provide consistent waste collection services. For example, around 35% of households in South Africa rely on informal or communal dumpsites. One of fleet managers' most important tasks is keeping their equipment in good technical condition, as any breakdown can lead to significant losses and complications. Irresponsible driving with the forceps down (which is prohibited) or delayed technical maintenance of trucks can disrupt daily business operations and result in unforeseen extra costs. Delayed waste collection or, in the worst case, no service at all, can also lead to many complaints and partnership problems with existing contractors. Thankfully, Teltonika Telematics has a forward-thinking solution to these challenges. SOLUTION Teltonika PROFESSIONAL category GPS trackers, such as FMC650 (LTE Cat 1 with fallback to 2G), or FMM650 (LTE Cat M1 with fallback to 2G) are the most accurate devices for tracking heavy vehicles in the most demanding and complex use cases. As an example, we have chosen FMC650 model to demonstrate the solution. How it works - these vehicle trackers support FMS data reading, allowing a wide range of on-board vehicle information to be read via the SAE J1939 protocol, including axle load data, RPM, engine hours and more. Models have a dedicated SAE J1708 port which is used to read vehicle fuel level and fuel consumption on certain types of vehicles. In addition, our professional trackers have the functionality to read and support any additional third-party sensors, for example, sensors connected via RS232 and RS485 interfaces, or even custom CAN sensors used for special and complex requirements. To better streamline fleet operations, FMS data can be used to monitor rear axle loading, i.e. the weight of waste loaded into the truck and the locations where service is most needed. Based on these figures, the fleet owner can optimise routes and schedule truck loading and/or servicing more effectively. Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers can receive data to prevent unsafe behaviour, such as driving with the forceps down, engine RPM, excessive speed, hard cornering or braking. As a result, fuel consumption and vehicle service costs are reduced and the chassis, brakes and other critical parts of the vehicle are kept in good condition for longer. Driver identification is the most accurate way of recording who has been driving a truck at certain times and monitoring driving behaviour during working hours. This can be achieved in two ways: Wireless driver identification using Teltonika EYE Beacon or driver identification via 1-Wire (RFID card or iButton ). This functionality can also be used in an 'immobilizer' scenario to only start the engine with ID authorisation. EYE Beacons and EYE Sensors not only help to identify drivers but also to track waste containers. When a vehicle equipped with FMC650 model is within Bluetooth® range, it acts as a gateway and communicates with beacons and/or sensors mounted on containers. With this combination, the vehicle tracker transmits data on events, such as the detection of containers, their movement, lifting and emptying, and sends it to a server for reporting. Read more about this here . What is more, Teltonika PROFESSIONAL GPS trackers can be connected to a tachograph - a device that records driving times. This smart feature allows managers to download DDD files and read live data. There are two connection options - the first is the usual connection from the end of the tachograph, and the second is an innovative connection from the front panel using the TACHO cable . All collected information is conveniently available in the WEB TACHO application. This feature can be used to avoid penalties from the authorities by monitoring the working and rest times of employees. In addition, PROFESSIONAL FMx6 series trackers can monitor whether the refuse truck's container is full or empty by using the axle load data received via J1939. By reading the status of the connected digital inputs, they can determine whether the truck's tongs are lowered and still in use, or no longer in use but still lowered. This ensures safe driving and reduces unexpected vehicle service costs. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Improved route efficiency - use real-time tracking to optimise routes for waste collection vehicles. This results in reduced fuel consumption and faster service times, improving overall operational efficiency. Improved fleet management - gain comprehensive insight into fleet operations, including vehicle locations and usage patterns, enabling better management of resources and scheduling. Increased driver accountability - monitor driver behaviour to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational protocols, improving service reliability and safety. Preventive maintenance alerts - receive timely notifications of vehicle maintenance needs based on usage data, helping to avoid unexpected breakdowns and extend vehicle life. Reduced operational costs - efficient route planning and maintenance management lead to significant cost savings in fuel, vehicle wear and tear and labour. Eco-friendly operations - by optimising routes and reducing unnecessary idling, you contribute to a lower carbon footprint, in line with environmental sustainability goals. Data-driven decision-making - access to detailed analysis and reporting provide valuable insight for strategic planning and continuous improvement of waste management operations. WHY TELTONIKA? At Teltonika Telematics, we understand the unique challenges of the waste transport industry. That is why we offer PROFESSIONAL category GPS devices designed to meet these challenges head-on. Our vehicle trackers provide detailed insight into every aspect of your fleet's operations, from route optimisation to vehicle maintenance. By using our products, waste management companies can achieve operational excellence and ensure timely and efficient waste collection and transport, which is critical in today's fast-paced world. • Improving Drivers' Behaviour With ADAS Solution

Prevention of car crashes caused by bad driving behaviour using Teltonika ADAS with new visual monitoring functionality IMPROVING DRIVERS' BEHAVIOUR WITH ADAS SOLUTION INTRO Bad driving behaviour can have costly consequences. It is important to detect, assess and prevent such incidents to avoid damage to fleets, freight and people as a result of irresponsible driving. ADAS solution developed by Teltonika has been enhanced with a new visual monitoring feature - video and photo-on-demand - which significantly extends the benefits of the current solution. CHALLENGE Bad driving behaviour is defined as any driving practice that is inherently unsafe and includes speeding, distracted, careless or reckless driving. These actions may lead to forward collisions, lane departures without signalling and deliberate tailgating which are among common reasons for accidents. As a result, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), about 51% of all fatal commercial motor vehicle accidents are caused by unexpected lane departures or failure to signal properly. In addition to that, around 20% of fatal truck or lorry crashes are caused by non-compliance with speed limits, which is costly for companies in the event of an accident. The average cost of a commercial fleet crash is $70,000 which can be a substantial expense for a company budget. It is essential to be able not only to detect and prevent car accidents but also to establish continuous improvement to avoid such circumstances in the future. Sadly, laws around the world that impose legal requirements on drivers to prevent driver misbehaviour are not yet 100% effective. For instance, there are around 15.5 million trucks in operation in the U.S. with almost 415,000 reported commercial crashes which clearly indicates the gap that is in the interest of the fleet owner to fill in. The adoption of additional tools and processes to complement legal requirements will benefit the company by reducing significant costs, time, and efficiency losses. With the right tools, the right challenge data and the right solutions, continuous improvement helps to boost company productivity and efficiency. Teltonika has therefore taken into account the needs and preferences of existing and potential customers to meet the need for a solution and has implemented a visual monitoring functionality in its Advanced Driver Assistance System , also known as ADAS. Now it combines all previously implemented ADAS features with video/photo-on-demand functionality to provide much-needed visual evidence . SOLUTION The solution consists of a windscreen-mounted ADAS and a PROFESSIONAL series vehicle GPS tracker FMC650 , connected via an RS232 serial port. The tracking device has an additional RS232/RS485 serial port and a 2X10 socket, allowing it to expand corporate fleet monitoring capabilities. Even more, the model can use multiple LLS sensors, an additional 3 analogue inputs, 4 digital outputs for a relay, starter and engine control, as well as CAN bus data reading. The combination of FMC650 and ADAS creates a solution that provides fleet management with the right tool for acquiring visuals from the events. The event is being mapped, therefore firstly requested photo may determine the relevance and necessity of the video material, saving time and money for unnecessary data usage. This solution allows accessing photo and video materials remotely based on the specific accident, location or time. The data from FMC650 and ADAS might be extracted with graphical evidence along with necessary information about cargo and vehicle state tight to it. For instance, requesting a photo in case of an unidentified geofence breach. The solution gives an opportunity to combine data, analyse the patterns across the fleet and implement changes that will increase company efficiency. Identification, prevention and implementation of continuous improvement might be some hefty tasks. However, ADAS range of functionalities creates a perfect tool to use for the correct solution. Improvement of actual, not theoretical problems within an organisation is important and more efficient. The fact is that data gathered from real-life and in-company situations is more useful than the use of general business-related videos and photo examples for training purposes . Brand new ADAS video and photo on-demand functionality can be also configured for periodical photo sending or video/photo transmission by a trigger. Various events of interest of bad driving and its exact location are identified, sent and stored in the server throughout the process of driving. The new ADAS visual monitoring functionality opens the possibility for a fleet manager to receive photos after the configured trigger and have the option to request a short video for up to 30 seconds for more visual data (20 seconds before the event, 10 seconds after the event). The visuals are mapped and stored for further analysis that can be used for the creation of a continuous improvement training package . ADAS systems prevent up to 40% of car accidents and up to 29% of fatal accidents. With the additional benefit of visual monitoring functionality, the implementation of continuous improvement is more efficient and personalised. Many researchers like Robin H. Kay, 2012 , Wen-Jung Hsin and John Cigas, 2013 , Brent R. Stockwell, 2015 have examined, evaluated and confirmed the positive effect of video materials as a source of learning. Therefore, an additional feature of ADAS solution helps to present the fleet manager with evidence of the event of interest that is further used for the evaluation, training and contribution towards training packages within the fleet management system. All in all, inappropriate driving behaviour can lead to costly consequences, which is why it is important to prevent it in the company fleet as much as possible. The brand-new ADAS functionality, which allows requesting a video or photo based on the events or time interval of interest, provides graphical evidence of such cases for evaluation, training and evidentiary purposes. For example, a photo will be sent immediately if there is a potential accident, or if it actually happens. So, if additional video evidence is needed, the fleet manager can also request it. Video material will not only be used as proof of the occurred event to the insurance company, but also for analysis by the company to prevent similar situations in the future. Analysing videos and photos can help you design training packages for continuous improvement, including motivational and bonus systems that increase company efficiency and help prevent future accidents. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Prevention of bad drivers’ behaviour – the combination of FMC650 and ADAS allows precise location tracking, detailed vehicle statistics and graphical representation of the event to prevent future accidents. Graphical evidence of an event – short videos or photos of the events can be sent to a server for further evaluation, evidence, and archive. Car accidents may be reduced in the future – the use of graphical evidence helps to uncover unforeseen situations, reducing the likelihood of the same situations happening again. Pattern establishment – more efficient analysis of common fleet errors using video. Implementation of continuous improvement – accurately detected problems and correctly created solutions help to increase company efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability. Relevant materials for training purposes – higher effectiveness of training materials due to relevant use of materials. In-depth analysis of the event – a useful tool for an investigation of an event that occurred. It is important to understand and evaluate how specific situations happened and how to avoid them in the future. Flexible configuration to the project needs could bring added value to the company. Individually configured triggers or events of interest can be recorded for the specific needs of clients. WHY TELTONIKA? Teltonika is at the forefront of advancing driver safety with our forward-thinking ADAS solutions. Our commitment to innovation is evident in the video/photo on demand feature, which enhances real-time monitoring and response to driver behaviour. Cost-effective management of heavy-duty vehicles utilising Teltonika wireless Bluetooth® LE accessories and vehicle GPS trackers MANAGEMENT OF HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES WITH BLUETOOTH® ACCESSORIES INTRO The global construction equipment market is of great importance to the economy which is estimated to steadily grow and reach 234.6 billion dollars in the year 2030. Heavy machinery is undoubtedly a crucial part of the industry and, the increasing fuel prices are a great challenge for operators and business owners. Teltonika Telematics devices and Bluetooth® accessories open up new possibilities and can be very useful here. CHALLENGE The costs of heavy machinery are enormous, and it is estimated that its’ average productivity is only 62% at best. That means that this expensive equipment is not being used for a lot of time. It is unacceptable that such costly machinery is so barely used and results in higher costs than it could be. Furthermore, spending time idling is another big challenge. It is estimated that, for example, one manufacturer’s heavy machinery is idling 40 per cent of total running time, resulting in 400 gallons in annual fuel waste per machine. These actions create very high costs, especially in larger fleets, that could be prevented with the help of smart telematics solutions. It is necessary to prevent situations when valuable materials are unloaded out of a dump truck without authorisation, especially in times of rising construction prices, harsh competition and construction materials being among top cargo theft targets. Moreover, it is also difficult to ensure that the driver of heavy machinery does not work in certain unsafe areas. For example, in an area where the movement of the excavator's arm is considered risky, the vehicle may drive through the area to reach its destination, but the excavator arm must not start moving to avoid disastrous consequences, and the fleet manager must be informed of such actions to taking preventive measures. If a driver accidentally starts to work outside the authorised area, he/she must be informed and stopped immediately. Fortunately, with Teltonika Telematics fleet management devices, combined with Bluetooth® LE accessories and smart thinking, these challenges can be overcome seamlessly and ensure maximum efficiency. SOLUTION To solve these challenges, we use the ADVANCED category Teltonika GPS tracker FMB240 with an integrated CAN bus data processor and EYE Sensors . The latter is used to track angular movements of various heavy-duty vehicles - hydraulic dumpsters, concrete rotators, excavator arms, plough trucks and graders, combines, harvesting headers and others. How it works - angular movement tracking allows operators to monitor the real working hours of heavy machinery and its’ employees, instead of just idling. Angular data of the sensor may be compared to an engine working time to objectively evaluate how much time the machine and driver were actually working, and how many hours it spent idling and simply wasting fuel and profits. For instance, if it is observed that the engine of the excavator is working, but angular data of EYE Sensor does not show movement data of the excavator arm, it means that the fuel is being wasted but no real work is being done. It is also applicable to other types of heavy machinery whose operations include lifting, such as hydraulic dumpsters. This solution helps to take preventive action and save these considerable costs that are wasted when machines are idling. To know if heavy machinery is working in areas considered risky, the EYE Sensor also comes in very handy. Thanks to its’ angular movement recognition capabilities, fleet operators can see whether equipment such as an excavator is being used in dangerous areas where it is not supposed to, by measuring the angular movement of the machinery, for example, the excavator arm. If that is the case, they need to be promptly informed about such irresponsible actions and take necessary actions. Furthermore, EYE Sensor movement detection helps heavy machinery fleet managers to detect potential thefts. For example, by checking how many dumps there were in general during the day and in which locations, it is possible to recognise if there were any unauthorised unloading of the dumpster, and take appropriate actions if that is the case. Better yet, to improve employees’ accountability, the solution might be combined with wireless driver identification and time tracking. With this option, the drivers of the machinery would have their EYE Beacons , and the working time of a particular driver would be tracked. On top of regular working time tracking, fleet managers could track if there is any overtime or if the driver is working on a weekend. It may be even spotted if the driver is performing work when it is forbidden to. This would help fleet operators to be in full control of their fleet and workforce and take necessary actions when needed. Finally, the extensive set of features of the integrated CAN bus data processor with ALL-CAN300 adapter functionality helps to manage fleets as efficiently as possible, while the IP67-rated casing of the FMB240 tracking device ensures that the solution will work in demanding climatic environments and challenging weather. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Accurate and reliable data on heavy machine performance – EYE Sensors enable smart and automated tracking of heavy-duty vehicle movements to monitor its working time and efficiency based on angular movement data. Exact working hours of machines and drivers – be aware of the working hours of heavy machinery and be sure that it is being used for work instead of idling. It may be used together with EYE Beacons for fully automated driver’s working time tracking. • Semi-trailer Tracking Solution With TAT100

Cost-effective semi-trailer monitoring solution with TAT100 tracker helping to increase fleet efficiency, reduce costs, improve service SEMI-TRAILER TRACKING SOLUTION WITH TAT100 INTRO Semi-trailers are one of the most important means of transporting larger loads, hazardous materials, construction materials, heavy equipment and machinery, petrol, chemicals, and other items. Naturally, every smart business owner needs to make sure their assets are tracked, continuously monitored, well-maintained, and protected. Teltonika asset trackers open up new possibilities for successfully managing these types of fleets. CHALLENGE The semi-trailer logistics industry is a vital part of the trucking industry. For instance, according to statistics , it moves approximately 72.5% of America's freight by weight. There are an estimated 13 million trucks on the road in the US, of which 2.9 million are tractor-trailers. This industry employs 8.9 million people, including 3.5 million truck drivers, and generates an estimated $255.5 billion in revenue. Regrettably, semi-trailer fleets around the world face several significant challenges, ranging from driver safety and productivity to fuel price volatility. In addition, the trucking industry faces more general issues , such as driver shortages, government regulations, and the emergence of new technologies. According to the 2021 Cargo Theft Report produced by BSI, TT Club & TAPA EMEA , cargo theft has increased due to supply chain congestion and weaknesses in railway locations and trains. Whether in unsecured car parks or container yards near port facilities, delays have indirectly made cargo more vulnerable to tampering by thieves and smugglers. To combat these challenges, company owners and fleet management must focus on investing in modern technology to remain competitive. Fortunately, such difficulties can be significantly reduced or avoided by utilising Teltonika Telematics tracking devices. SOLUTION To meet these challenges and offer a solution, we chose Teltonika TAT100 autonomous asset tracker with a few key features - IP68-rated robust casing, universal mounting, long-life replaceable internal battery, and high gain GNSS antenna. It has a lifespan of up to 1,000 records or 3 years if a record is sent once every 24 hours. Thanks to a handy set of features, the model is a preferred choice for tracking all types of valuable fleet assets and goods (non-powered ones too), as well as a wide range of semi-trailers - flatbed trailers, step deck trailers, extendable flatbed trailers, stretch wingle-drop deck trailers, extendable double drop trailers, dry vans (aka enclosed trailers), tank trailers, lowboy trailers, etc. How it works - TAT100 tracking device must be installed and configured on each semi-trailer to be monitored. The tracker can detect the trailer's movement, and location and transmit this information to a central monitoring system, allowing fleet managers to monitor their trailers and cargo. Location data is gathered and stored in the cloud for easy access by authorised personnel such as dispatchers or maintenance personnel. As there is a concern about theft from loaded trailers, Teltonika TAT100 is equipped with features designed to combat this. Firstly, the tracker helps to identify where your semi-trailer is through periodic or scheduled tracking. Secondly, the additional IoT sensors enable notification if there is an unauthorised attempt to open the trailer. Even more, if customers require monitoring the temperature inside refrigerated trailers, the installation of an additional accessory – Teltonika EYE Sensor - to make sure fleet managers do not miss any deviations from the set temperature range and cargo is delivered in the proper condition. As the asset GPS tracker can be configured to send notifications at specific times and to wake up if there is any unwanted activity related to the security of the assets, authoritative people don't have to worry about charging it all the time. All this is on a dedicated online platform where managers can easily monitor the situation and, if necessary, change tracking and/or notification parameters. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Keep assets fully operational and moving - a parked or constantly idle semi-trailer can cost business owners dearly. With TAT100 tracker, fleet managers can track them to ensure they are being used efficiently, reducing costs. Security and accountability - with location tracking, fleet owners can ensure that semi-trailers are secure and know exactly where they are parked, when they are loaded or unloaded, and how long they have been idle. Increase revenue - fleet managers can use the GPS tracker to generate more revenue by billing based on time on site and identifying unused trailers. This helps them to better allocate their resources and maximise revenue potential. Theft prevention – TAT100 model can help fleet managers respond quickly to theft by sending alerts when a trailer leaves its designated location. This can help prevent the loss of valuable assets and provide a higher level of security for the fleet. Temperature monitoring in the cold chain market – combined with Bluetooth® LE sensors, Teltonika asset tracker can also provide a temperature monitoring option. This can help fleet managers comply with regulations governing the transport of temperature-sensitive goods and provide important data for quality control and audit purposes. WHY TELTONIKA?
