  • FMS Eco Driving Of Teltonika Professional Trackers

FMS Eco Driving functionality is an important tool for optimising fuel efficiency, reducing costs, and environmental impact in fleet operations FMS ECO DRIVING OF TELTONIKA PROFESSIONAL TRACKERS INTRO Reducing fuel consumption is one of the biggest challenges in today's world. Many transport companies fail to manage their resources efficiently due to irresponsible and incorrect driver behaviour. Fortunately, Teltonika Telematics offers new report-based functionality for a range of professional devices to help fleet managers monitor drivers and determine how they are using vehicle capabilities. CHALLENGE Fuel costs account for a significant proportion of fleet operating costs. Optimising fuel efficiency is therefore one of the most common challenges facing fleet operators today. By optimising fuel efficiency, fleet owners can reduce fuel consumption and improve company profitability. To achieve this, it's important to adopt eco-driving practices. A major eco-driving project experiment in Madrid public transport company showed that implementing eco-driving practices resulted in a 15% reduction in fuel consumption. This may not sound like much, but saving just a few per cent of fuel consumption in this company's fleet means saving millions of litres of fuel per year! Furthermore, a consistent focus on fuel economy brings economic, environmental, and safety benefits. Speaking of the environment, CO2 pollution from vehicles and transport overall is a major challenge in the fight against climate change. As the number of vehicles on the road continues to grow, the combustion of fossil fuels in cars, vans, and trucks is a major contributor to CO2 emissions and global warming. Implementing effective eco-driving practices can help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, protect the environment and create a healthier and more sustainable world for future generations. Let's find out how this can be improved with new features from Teltonika. SOLUTION We are meeting this challenge with the FMS Eco Driving feature. It monitors driver behaviour by reading FMS CAN data from trucks and lorries and sending a report to the server, showing fleet managers the driving style of their drivers. This functionality applies to Teltonika PROFESSIONAL category FMx6 series GPS trackers, and we will use FMC650 as an example here. Let's take a closer look at how the solution works. Reports - FMS Eco Driving is a report-based functionality. The functionality generates a report on a driver's behaviour after the trip has taken place. It allows fleet managers to stay aware of driver behaviour and fleet operations. There are a number of hard-coded report triggers , such as Startup, Power Down, Driver ID, and End of Day. It's also possible to select additional configurable triggers for each element - Trip/Periodic: Trip Start, Trip End, and Periodic. The reporting functionality eliminates the need to monitor real live FMS data during the trip, reducing data storage costs and fleet manager time. Units - driver behaviour can be monitored through different accumulators, such as distance travelled and/or fuel consumed and/or time spent in the specific state and/or accumulator count for specific elements, such as Cruise Control , Coasting , ECO Roll , Retarder , Power Take Off system (PTO). The customer can select the required accumulator and activate it in the configurator (all activated elements have their specific AVL IDs) . For example, in the Braking Accumulators report, the number of brakes is 10, while the distance travelled with the brake pedal depressed is 2 km. This means that the driver is using the brake to slow the truck down instead of using the engine brake (retarder). Such a driving style requires the use of brake pads, which means that they have to be changed more often and fuel consumption is higher because the truck has to accelerate again and again. The Braking Accumulators report, therefore, helps fleet managers to identify and address poor driving habits. What is the meaning of bad driving style? It means that the driver doesn't use the full range of a truck or lorry capabilities, such as engine braking (retarder), coasting, cruise control, doesn't anticipate road/traffic conditions, i.e., doesn't use the vehicle momentum when needed, overuses the brakes, etc. Range Accumulators - FMS Eco Driving can generate a table of distance, time, and fuel used in different ranges for specific elements and up to 10 configurable ranges. Fleet managers can configure the table according to their needs, let’s say, three ranges - 50, 70, and 90 km/h for city driving and motorway driving respectively. For instance, speed range: the server receives distance elements from the trip end - how many metres were travelled when the speed was from 0 to 10, from 11 to 20, from 21 to 30 km/h and so on. This data from the table can help fleet managers understand why a driver was driving at a low speed, or why the RPM was high, and for how long. If there was no reason for the low speed/high RPM, the driving style could be corrected to reduce fuel consumption. If there was a valid reason, such as a traffic jam, fleet managers can use this information for better routing in the future. In summary, FMC650 FMS Eco Driving feature is a sophisticated tool designed to optimise fleet management by monitoring driver behaviour. It does this by reading FMS CAN data from a truck or lorry and sending a report to the server, enabling fleet managers to assess the driving style of individual drivers. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Optimised fuel consumption - encourage efficient driving, significantly reduce fuel consumption, and improve profitability. Reduced data traffic and costs - accumulate data in the device and send a report only on specified triggers or periods, rather than monitoring live FMS data. Optimised maintenance - extend the life of the fleet, reduce maintenance costs and minimise downtime due to repairs by promoting a smoother driving style. Reduced emissions - encourage fuel-efficient driving, minimise environmental impact and contribute to sustainability efforts. Promotes safer driving - conforms to common safe driving practices and improves overall road safety. WHY TELTONIKA? • Indoor Tracking Solutions Copy

Innovative indoor tracking solutions using Bluetooth® ID beacons and Teltonika GPS trackers to improve business efficiency INDOOR TRACKING SOLUTIONS (JP) INTRO To compete effectively in today's fast-paced world and rapidly evolving technologies, businesses must be more innovative, efficient and competitive, while saving resources. As a result, affordable indoor tracking solutions combined with process monitoring and automation options are becoming increasingly popular, providing an opportunity for those looking for new market niches to profit. CHALLENGE Let’s get it straight - why would companies and organisations even need a positioning system indoors? Well, within sizable buildings such as warehouses, shopping malls and supermarkets, trade fairs, exhibition centres, airports, hospitals, complex public transport hubs, concert halls and sports arenas, managers and team leaders may spend a considerable amount of time managing and finding in a real-time what they are looking and accountable for - people, goods, and assets. Re-organising and optimising these tedious daily routines through the use of modern technology would undoubtedly save companies resources, effort and time, improving customer service and ROI, to say the least. In addition, with dedicated third-party software, companies can get a real-time overview of all registered assets on the site map, take advantage of search and filter functions, motion profiles, time-lapse changes, convenient asset/person registration and management routines, tracked object dashboards, and more. Since it became publicly available in the late 90s, the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite technology revolutionised outdoor positioning. Today billions of people worldwide have at least one smart device with such positioning capabilities - a smartphone, tablet, or watch with built-in GPS or tracking device. But there is a major technical difficulty here - GPS signals often are not accurate enough to be practical indoors or in narrow streets as they diminish and scatter by surrounding structures - roofs and walls. Even more, the location error range of some GPS chips can be greater than the indoor space itself. So, is there any way to overcome this obstacle and rip the benefits of location tracking and positioning indoors to ensure accurate indoor tracking where GNSS struggles? SOLUTION Thanks to the fast-developing and competing technologies, indoor tracking can be achieved in a variety of ways by adopting Bluetooth® Low Energy 4.X , Wi-Fi , Magnetic Field Detection, Near Field Communication (NFC), Ultra-wideband (UWB), Radio-frequency Identification (UHF RFID), etc. They vary in terms of cost efficiency, accuracy, compatibility, and implementation effort, but we discuss further indoor positioning, tracking and navigation use cases specifically for Bluetooth® GPS trackers in a combination with EYE beacons , small ID radio transmitters. And here is why… Bluetooth® connectivity has low cost, high energy efficiency and accuracy, works independently of the network and has less interference, easy to install, deploy and integrate into the existing Bluetooth® ecosystem. Beacons with configurable to exact customer need signal strength and data transmitting intervals can be easily integrated into virtually any size and form environment. ID beacons continue to transmit unique signals, which GPS trackers read and identify. The FM devices then send this data, along with their GNSS location details, to a server for analysis. Dedicated software determines the location of all beacons (i.e. tagged assets and/or people) based on their proximity to the nearest tracker. Also, ID beacons can be fixed in specific places indoors and used as a unique location identifier . When a vehicle equipped with an FM tracker enters a beacon transmitting zone and reads its ID signal, vehicle location gets tracked with pretty high accuracy. If a vehicle operates both outdoors and indoors, it will be tracked via GNSS signal outside and via ID beacons inside. Another scenario - FM device is permanently fixed on-premise walls, ceiling, and racks, plugged into a power supply unit and it is used as a gateway between moving beacons and a cellular network. This is not a conventional way to utilise GPS trackers, but it also proved to be beneficial and has a demand in the market. Teltonika GPS trackers support up to 100 beacons simultaneously, and each beacon will work continuously for approximately 2 to 10 years on a single battery, depending on the model, transmitting a signal up to a range of 500 metres. By using Bluetooth® Low Energy 4.X technology products and accessories, companies and organisations can track indoor items, employees, customers, mobile tools, vehicles, object/person movement patterns and more. The possibilities and benefits are remarkable, so let's go through some of the prominent use cases. TRACKING GOODS, WORKFORCE, AND VEHICLES IN WAREHOUSES This scenario ensures indoor positioning in busy large warehouses, tracking goods (individual or pallets/containers/canisters), vehicles (e.g. forklifts, pallet trucks, order pickers, tugs) and employees in real-time, providing a comprehensive analysis of operations, anti-theft protection, accident prevention and indoor navigation. In addition, the solution can be easily supplemented with Bluetooth® LE sensors , such as temperature and/or humidity sensors, to create the right conditions to prevent damage to goods, products, the facility itself and avoid financial losses. Here, FM trackers are installed in industrial vehicles (e.g. forklifts) and ID beacons are stationary, either mounted on racks, walls or ceilings. Their position is known and used for indoor positioning when a forklift enters each beacon's signal transmission zone. The key benefits are all important in optimising business processes, minimising search and loading times, downtime, operating costs, increased efficiency, space utilisation, worker safety and return on investment. This outline applies perfectly to many industrial sites and the logistics industry. TRACKING WORKERS, MACHINERY, AND VEHICLES IN MINING When Teltonika GPS trackers are installed in combination with ID beacons/sensors, business owners and fleet management can benefit from real-time asset, vehicle and personnel tracking; comprehensive anti-theft protection; analysis of movement profiles, staffing, workflow and deployment efficiency; monitoring of specific workstations or entire sites (e.g. temperature, humidity); securing of hazardous areas, monitoring of emergencies and management of evacuation procedures. All of the above apply to open-cast mines, underground mines, remote sites and the gas and oil industries. Similar to the previous scenario above, FM devices are installed in industrial mining vehicles (dump trucks, excavators, various loaders, bulldozers, motor graders, etc.), and Bluetooth® beacons are stationary and attached to either reinforcement frames or shaft ceilings. Their position is known and used for indoor positioning when tracked mining machines enter each beacon signal transmission zone. The main benefits are maximised productivity and profitability, greatly improved worker safety and discipline, optimised workflow, asset utilisation, preventive maintenance procedures for machinery and heavy vehicles, reduced downtime and wasted company resources, etc. TRACKING PERSONNEL, ASSETS, AND VEHICLES IN MEDICAL EMERGENCY SERVICES By using a combination of FM devices and Bluetooth® ID beacons, fleet managers can significantly benefit from tracking ambulance vehicles and onboard assets. Here, Teltonika GPS devices installed in vehicles track the real-time location of ambulances and, at the same time, all objects with beacons attached. In this way, indoor tracking of ambulance crew members, high-value medical equipment and machinery, expensive drugs, medicine location monitoring and, if necessary, their temperature tracking by adding Bluetooth® LE temperature sensors. The key benefits are optimisation of ambulance fleet routines and far greater efficiency, theft protection and increased accountability for medical equipment, drugs and related inventory, improved team communication and readiness, improved dispatch and response times, timely fleet maintenance and reduced operational costs. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Smooth business operations and outstanding efficiency - 100% accountability for everything that matters to the business - goods, valuable assets, processes, patterns and personnel actions are tracked, monitored and optimised. Maximum results with minimum fuss. Impeccable customer service and brand reputation - real-time visitor, customer, patient or passenger flow monitoring and navigation; location-based smartphone apps, maps and audio guidance where appropriate to improve user experience, loyalty and corporate image. • Motorcycle Tracking, Protection, And Safety

Tracking motorcycles using Teltonika GPS device FMB965 to improve fleet protection, drivers' safety, reduce financial losses MOTORCYCLE TRACKING, PROTECTION, AND SAFETY INTRO Motorcycles are one of the most popular types of vehicles. There are over 200 million of them (including mopeds, scooters, and motorised bicycles) across the globe, and millions of people use them daily. Regrettably, this transport segment is affected by theft-related crimes and safety challenges, causing traffic accidents and financial losses. Given this, Teltonika came up with a practical solution making a significant impact. CHALLENGE Did you know, over 9,000 motorcycles or scooters are stolen each year in the city of London, according to the Metropolitan Police ? As stated by the UK national Department for Transpor t, motorcycle owners face a nearly 13% chance of having their motorcycle stolen each year. All the more, according to the NICB report , the number of motorcycle thefts has increased by an impressive 30% in 2020. That said, most motorcycles are an easy target for thieves. In many cases, timely and the right data-driven actions against an attempted theft can save valuable assets and prevent financial losses. If so, owners and corporate fleet managers need to know where the vehicle is at a given moment, how long it has been used or not used, etc. Yes, GPS tracking devices can be very useful here, but there are a few things to consider. Firstly, there are many places in a passenger car or light commercial vehicle where a tracker can be mounted, but such spots and spaces are quite limited on motorcycles, so it is particularly important to have a compact tracker. Going further, all kinds of motorbikes are often affected by climate factors and environmental conditions. So, rainwater, dew, moisture, mud, clay, sand, dust, vibration, hot vapour and other aspects should be considered too. Secondly, a battery capacity of a petrol-powered motorcycle is smaller than ones of average automobiles, so there is a risk that the conventional GPS tracker could drain the battery and cause it to run down when the motorcycle is not used for an extended period. Even more, a typical motorcycle journey is usually shorter than a vehicle journey (e.g., taxi or international logistics lorry), which means that the GPS device internal backup battery has less time to recharge from an alternator. This being said, these challenges need to be addressed and Teltonika Telematics is ready to offer a practical solution. SOLUTION To showcase it, we choose the brand-new model Teltonika FMB965 - 2G connectivity dedicated motorbike GPS tracker with a few distinctive features: compact and robust IP67 rating casing, a large 1,200 mAh capacity internal battery and a novel sleep mode. The model has GSM signal jamming detection, towing detection, unplug detection, auto geofence and other scenarios allowing to initiate of preventive actions, such as triggering motorcycle alarm system, block starter, etc. This easy-to-install, latest-generation device is specifically designed to track motorcycles, but it can be used successfully in other use cases too. How it works - thanks to its ingress protection and small body to its class, FMB965 can be unrestrictedly attached to the spot of a motorcycle of your choice. Please note, the casing with click-type closure ensures both - a reliable shield against the elements and ease of use, as it needs no additional tools or any screws to assemble the device and ensures desirable performance at the same time. Thanks to the Power Off Sleep Mode function, FMB965 can consume less than 1 mA of current, minimising battery drain when the motorbike is not in use (e.g., during prolonged periods of inclement weather unsuitable for riding). Conveniently, this allows the model to run on its internal backup battery autonomously for up to 30 days. In addition, Teltonika device can monitor the motorcycle battery charge level and inform the fleet manager, owner or rider if it's level drops to a critical value to prevent the vehicle stall and unwanted surprises. Besides, when it is intended to be used infrequently, it makes sense to install the GPS tracker in such a way that it is disconnected from the motorcycle battery power supply when the ignition is switched off. Just keep in mind that in this case, it will not be possible to read the battery charge level. To ensure protection, the vehicle GPS tracker detects and immediately sends an instant notification (as a GPRS command, SMS message or DOUT activation) if it was disconnected from the motorcycle battery, if the GSM signal was jammed, if the motorbike was towed or there was an unauthorised movement, drag, etc. When the driver’s identification with the immobilizer feature is activated, only the authorised person will be able to use the vehicle. The safety of motorcyclists - the fact is, they are less protected than car drivers, so ensuring their safety is crucial for fleet owners, families, police, other road users, insurance companies, the government, and society. Because of the built-in accelerometer and the practical Eco Driving and Speeding detection scenarios, aggressive or sporty driving will inevitably be detected and those responsible will be notified helping to take appropriate disciplinary actions to minimise the risk of crashes and/or traffic accidents. Last but not least, FMB965 supports Bluetooth® LE connectivity, allowing it to communicate with wireless accessories such as Teltonika EYE Beacon . The latter can be mounted on all helmets in a corporate fleet. If any rider forgets to wear a helmet, the tracker will detect this event and send relevant data to the managers in charge and/or dispatchers. Finally, thanks to the extensive and pretty unique set of features, the new FMB965 is a preferred choice not only for petrol-powered motorcycle fleets but also for snowmobiles, all sorts of recreational vehicles, water transport such as luxury boats and jet skis, trailers, etc. The device firmware updates and configuration changes can be made remotely using FOTA WEB tool - a powerful software solution helping to manage all Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers with exemplary efficiency. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Designed specifically with motorcycles in mind - FMB965 model has a compact and robust casing, a large capacity internal battery and a novel sleep mode. Reliable tracking in bad weather conditions - thanks to its IP67-rated casing, the tracking device can be utilised in a wide range of challenging environments, as it is water-resistant. Innovative click-type casing closing ensures both reliable protection and ease of use at the same time, as it needs no additional tools for assembly and installation. All-in-one solution - a rich set of unique handy features and usage scenarios to ensure smooth motorcycle fleet operations, diverse protection of assets, riders’ safety and the best value for money. More business opportunities - thanks to the remarkable FMB965 functionality, it can be used in a broader variety of markets and regions, bringing more projects, income streams, and a competitive edge. SUCCESS STORY Spain has one of the highest motorcycle fatality and theft rates in Europe. To address this challenge, the government and motorcycle manufacturers worked together to find solutions. A local family business proposed a mobile phone app to track motorcycles in real-time, and it worked! However, this software provider wasn't able to implement the idea on its own. That's when Teltonika Telematics stepped in - after testing various devices, they settled on FMB965, which played a key role in transforming the business. The partnership with us has helped them to generate almost EUR 5 million in sales and install around 2,000 trackers per month. By providing their software and Teltonika Telematics hardware, they prevent motorcycle theft through live mapping, which helps to recover stolen vehicles quickly and allows the police to catch thieves like never before. The company estimates that 50% more stolen motorcycles are now recovered than without a tracking system installed in the vehicle. The solution also helps monitor motorcycle usage for flexible leasing terms and improves insurance premium calculations for end users. The key principle of Teltonika Telematics is to help our customers grow. This is one of the examples of how our customers have gone from zero to hero! WHY TELTONIKA? Teltonika's motorcycle tracking solutions are designed to enhance security, optimise performance, and ensure rider safety. Our GPS devices provide accurate real-time location tracking, motion alerts and theft prevention features, enabling motorcycle owners and fleet managers to respond quickly to any incident. • Global Connectivity Solution For Stolen Vehicle Recovery

Tackling stolen vehicle recovery challenges using Teltonika Global Connectivity Solution and vehicle GPS tracker portfolio GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY SOLUTION FOR STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERY INTRO Vehicle theft and related criminal activity is a costly challenge and, despite some fluctuations, it is still on the rise worldwide. Regrettably, globalisation and uneven technological advances have led to a quite dramatic increase in car theft, making some developing countries the attractive markets for cars stolen abroad. Teltonika Telematics is ready to offer a present-day solution to address this important issue. CHALLENGE According to Statista , the estimated global car theft rate is 85.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2020, there were Uruguay, Italy, and the United States among the countries with an extreme number of vehicle theft incidents. These crimes not only harm the quality of life of innocent citizens, drivers, vehicle owners, but also bring significant losses to businesses, insurance companies, and governments. In most cases, criminals try to steal a vehicle quickly and get it to remote areas as soon as possible. Some unfortunate cars are then stripped down to their component parts, scrapped or left to thieves, but other vehicles (mostly expensive or special ones) are smuggled into border countries, which are also usually less economically developed. For example, stolen cars are shipped to Canada from the US, to Bolivia from Brazil, and to Albania from Italy. Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers have a wide range of usage scenarios and features that effectively help to increase security and prevent vehicle theft in the first place. But what if the worst happens – the car is stolen and cannot be found swiftly, which is quite a common situation, to say at least? Is it still possible to locate the vehicle afterwards, even in a less developed country with limited mobile network coverage? The answer is ‘yes’ because Teltonika Telematics has come up with a practical solution to help solve this challenge. SOLUTION Teltonika GPS trackers are proven to be highly efficient devices to not only track and monitor a vehicle, but even help to recover it if the car is stolen. Thanks to sophisticated hardware, smart firmware features and practical usage scenarios, they greatly complicate the vehicle theft process and help prevent loss or recover assets. For more information, please read these published use cases: Anti-Theft Solution and Stolen Vehicle Recovery , Anti-Theft Solution For Delivery Services , and Secure Vehicle Disabling . However, in addition to the above, we focus here on the connectivity aspect, which is essential and makes a significant difference - without access to a mobile network, a GPS device alone would not be able to transmit any tracked data and locate a stolen vehicle. With that said, how can we ensure this anytime, anywhere? Teltonika Global Connectivity Solution , which at least consists of a SIM card and an IoT Platform to manage it, is designed to connect GPS devices anywhere over a mobile network using the SIM card data plan. As a result, a GPS tracker with a SIM card and a global data plan can connect to the internet worldwide allowing it to manage its functions and information all the time. This ensures constant communication, timely alerts and relevant data transfer to a dedicated server, and in our case, the most important thing – the trip history details and coordinates to recover the stolen vehicle. Obviously, a GPS tracker must be available and connectable via a mobile network to locate the vehicle of interest. For connectivity, differently from regular local operator plans, we offer one of the most comprehensive Teltonika Global Plan, covering 134 countries and territories around the world as of May 2022, with up to 3 major network operators available in each country. For that reason, a vehicle with a Teltonika GPS tracker and a Teltonika Global Plan can be located and recovered from the farthest country (obviously, if that country is on the Global Plan coverage list). Consider this - if a luxury or sports car is stolen in Italy and trafficked to Albania, we can still trace its location because both Italy and Albania are included in Teltonika Global Plan. Combining the Global Connectivity Solution and the features of Teltonika GPS trackers (e.g., internal Flash memory to store trip data, sensitive high-gain antennas able to pick up the GNSS signal even in poor conditions and send location coordinates to a dedicated server), it is possible to track and locate the stolen vehicle across numerous national borders and eventually recover it. The vehicle recovery process is carried out using a variety of Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) software applications that can be accessed via any smartphone, tablet or PC with an internet connection, so you can track your vehicle wherever it is, as long as a GPS tracker mounted on it is connected to the network. Finally, don't forget to follow basic safety precautions: lock the doors and close the windows, take the car keys, don't leave the vehicle unattended for long periods, and install Teltonika GPS tracking devices with the appropriate connectivity solution. If done so, rest assured that even if the worst happens, it will unquestionably help recover a stolen vehicle and save resources for asset owners, insurance agencies and police. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Track and recover stolen vehicles virtually anywhere - as for now, Teltonika Global Plan supports connectivity in 134 countries worldwide. Always the strongest signal possible - with up to 3 network operators supported in each country, the SIM card picks the one with the strongest signal to maintain the best data rate available. Network of your choice to suit business needs - Teltonika wide range of vehicle GPS devices support 2G/ 3G/ 4G LTE generation broadband technologies. Platform for any type and size fleet - a state-of-the-art IoT Platform for managing and monitoring all Teltonika SIM cards. As the platform is custom-built, there is room to modify it to suit any relevant operational requirements. Improved revenue streams and reputation - by successfully preventing car theft and recovering losses, telematics service providers and integrators can build a good reputation, gain a competitive edge and get more profitable projects. All-in-one solution - besides the wide choice of vehicle GPS trackers and accessories, Teltonika offers SIM cards, Global Plan, IoT Platform and first-rate customer support. • REMOTE DTC READING FOR PROACTIVE HEAVY FLEET MAINTENANCE

Read diagnostic messages (DM1/DM2) remotely with FMC650 to detect component failures early, assess severity, and prevent costly machinery downtime. REMOTE DTC READING FOR PROACTIVE HEAVY FLEET MAINTENANCE INTRO Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are standardised alerts generated by the vehicle’s electronic control unit when issues are detected. Each code contains information about the type and location of a fault, helping technicians identify issues more quickly. With Teltonika PROFESSIONAL category trackers, reading fault codes from heavy vehicles can be automated, enabling remote diagnostics and proactive fleet management. CHALLENGE Most fleet operators only become aware of component failures when the check engine light appears on the dashboard, which is often too late for preventive action. Take, for example, a long-haul truck showing early signs of trouble: a slight drop in power, rough idling, and inconsistent fuel consumption. The driver hears a faint knocking sound but sees no warning indicators. With limited information, they contact the dispatcher to assess whether the journey should continue. This moment of uncertainty reflects a broader issue; without access to live diagnostic data, operators are left to interpret symptoms without context. In this case, the underlying fault is a deteriorating injector, which gradually affects combustion quality. Over time, the problem escalates, leading to incomplete fuel burn and increased cylinder wear. If unnoticed, the vehicle continues operating inefficiently, consuming more fuel and placing additional strain on engine components. Eventually, the fault triggers a warning light, forcing the truck off the road for repairs. The vehicle may require towing to the nearest service centre, which often leads to unexpected expenses. In such cases, service rates may be higher in some regions due to local pricing, lack of prior relationship with the workshop, or urgency of the repair. There is also no guarantee that the mechanics are reliable or familiar with the vehicle’s specifications. Non-operational time is costly as well. Long-haul trucks typically cover between 273 and 411 kilometres per day, with freight rates ranging from €1.10 to €2.30 per kilometre depending on the route and country. Even a single day of downtime can result in lost revenue of up to €945, not to mention disruption to delivery schedules and customer commitments. The real challenge lies not in the fault itself, but in the absence of early visibility. Without real-time diagnostic data, operators cannot distinguish between minor irregularities and emerging failures. This lack of clarity often leads to reactive decisions, which are more costly and less predictable than planned interventions. SOLUTION To address this, Teltonika’s PROFESSIONAL FMx6 series trackers can read DTCs directly from heavy-duty vehicles, helping fleet managers identify issues before they escalate. FMC650 tracker uses the SAE J1939 protocol, which standardises communication between electronic control units in heavy vehicles. This enables easier diagnostics, data logging, and interoperability across systems. The standard also defines diagnostic messages for reporting and repair. The most important of these is DM1, which provides real-time insight into current vehicle faults; thus, it is often referred to as active diagnostic trouble code. DM1 contains two key components that help evaluate the vehicle’s condition: Signal lamp status – indicates whether dashboard warning lights are triggered. These help fleet owners assess whether a fault is severe enough to stop the vehicle or if it is a minor issue that can be addressed later. Diagnostic trouble codes, which describe each fault using: o Suspect Parameter Number (SPN) – identifies the affected system or component o Failure Mode Identifier (FMI) – describes the type and severity of the fault o Occurrence Count (OC) – shows how frequently the issue has occurred o Conversion method – indicates whether the SPN follows a standard or proprietary format Think of active diagnostic messages as a continuous broadcast of vehicle issues, and telematics as the tool that allows you to tune in. This broadcast reports everything in real time, from minor irregularities to serious faults. Without listening to it, operators rely solely on dashboard warnings like the check engine light, which provides information about neither the location nor the severity of the malfunction. In addition to DM1, FMx650 devices also capture DM2 messages, which contain previously active faults. These help identify recurring issues and long-term fault patterns. To ensure maximum flexibility, FMx650 trackers transmit diagnostic messages as raw hexadecimal strings without applying any pre-interpretation. These messages are identical to what a service tool would read at a workshop, giving integrators the choice to build their own decoding logic or simply forward the codes to fleet owners who often already know their meaning. Predictive maintenance with FMx650 doesn’t stop with diagnostic message insights. The tracker can connect two CAN lines, which unlocks vehicle data from different sources. Whether it is managing the best route to the workshop based on the driver hours left on the tachograph or monitoring tyre pressure from the trailer EBS modulator, the tracker can handle it all. By combining active fault codes with other CAN data, operators gain a comprehensive view of vehicle health. This makes it possible to schedule maintenance proactively, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend the lifespan of a truck. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Remote diagnostics – Eliminate manual diagnostics and enable faster, more scalable maintenance workflows, giving businesses a competitive edge through smarter fleet management. Reduce fleet downtime - By detecting faults early, fleets can plan service before breakdowns occur. This minimises repair delays and keeps vehicles on the road longer. Optimise maintenance processes - Remote DTC reading allows technicians to prepare parts and service in advance. As a result, workshop time is shortened, and maintenance becomes more efficient. Lower operational costs - Vehicles running outside optimal conditions consume more fuel and wear out components faster. Accurate fault data helps operators avoid costly inefficiencies and extend vehicle lifespan. Enable data-driven decisions - DTC insights give managers a clear view of vehicle performance under different conditions. This makes it easier to plan budgets, schedule service, and decide on upgrades or parts replacement. Scale telematics with fewer devices - Instead of installing separate hardware for diagnostics, tachograph, and FMS data, the FMx650 integrates everything into one solution. This reduces complexity, installation time, and overall costs for fleets and integrators. SUCCESS STORY Did you know that remote diagnostic data is valuable not only for trucks? Utility companies often operate in hard-to-reach areas and face similar challenges, such as vegetation blocking a flail head or rising hydraulic temperatures, which can cause damage over time and wear out equipment. To address this, telematics integrators from Italy worked with a manufacturer of motorised vegetation cutters to develop a fleet management platform with remote monitoring and predictive maintenance features using FMC650 trackers supporting DTC reading functionality. Robotic lawnmowers were deployed to prevent overgrowth along highways. With precise tracking, the machines operated independently within defined geozones, while operators remotely monitored their performance, including speed, pneumatic temperature, engine hours, and other essential parameters. When a fault occurred, the responsible teams received notifications directly on their computer or smartphone, specifying which component malfunctioned and how urgent the issue was. This project helped prevent breakdowns of vegetation cutters, increasing safety for both operators and equipment. By using trackers capable of reading fault codes, fleet managers gained a complete view of machine performance, even in difficult terrain. WHY TELTONIKA? • Prevention Of Accidents With Teltonika DSM Solution

Learn how the Teltonika DSM solution can help prevent accidents and improve fleet and road safety. Explore its features for efficient driving PREVENTION OF ACCIDENTS WITH TELTONIKA DSM SOLUTION INTRO Every road user needs to be aware that their behaviour and actions have a huge impact on their safety and the safety of others. Distraction is still the main cause of many road accidents resulting in serious injuries, fatalities, and cargo damage. Teltonika has developed a new DSM solution with visual monitoring capabilities to ensure driver concentration and self-control while driving. CHALLENGE Most people accept fatigue as a normal part of their busy lives. Tiredness rarely prevents us from carrying out our daily tasks, so we do not assume that it should stop us from driving. Unfortunately, driving while tired can be a fatal mistake. A tired person cannot function at their best; vision, judgement and reaction time are all impaired. If you experience these minor impairments while driving, you are much more likely to be involved in an accident or collision. A driver does not necessarily have to fall asleep at the wheel to be injured or killed as a result of driver fatigue. According to the Driver Fatigue in European Road Transport Report (2021) , 24% of bus and coach drivers and 30% of lorry drivers said they had fallen asleep at the wheel at least once in the previous 12 months. 8% of bus and coach drivers and 11% of lorry drivers had fallen asleep over three times in the previous 12 months. In addition, if a person is distracted by smoking or using a mobile phone while driving, they may not be able to concentrate on what is happening on the road. In 2021 alone, an estimated 19,800 people will die in road accidents in the EU. Reducing these critical figures is vital for all of us. EU Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean said: "At the EU level, through funding, legislation and education, we will try to contribute to the 'safe system' of safer infrastructure, safer vehicles, safer road use and better post-crash care. But this is a shared responsibility with Member States, industry and road users. Every death and serious injury on our roads is preventable". With this in mind, we strongly believe that DSM will help improve driver behaviour and provide all road users with a safer and less stressful journey. SOLUTION To improve road safety, we present Teltonika DSM driver monitoring solution. The windscreen-mounted camera works with PROFESSIONAL category device FMC650 via an RS232 serial port connection. Teltonika DSM includes several built-in warning conditions: drowsiness, yawning, distraction, smoking, phone use, and unbuckled seatbelt. The solution also recognises the driver's face, stores up to 990 driver IDs, and identifies who is on board. The system uses deep learning algorithms to perform face recognition in various driving conditions, including bright sunlight, nighttime, and when the driver wears a mask or hat. It detects and calculates head position (x, y, z), face direction (yaw, pitch, roll), and eye and mouth opening or closing. How it works - all of these integrated safety warning systems are designed to prevent potential road accidents. By offering advanced technologies that alert drivers, fleet managers can track and monitor various events. Teltonika DSM immediately alerts the driver with an audible warning. Once the camera detects alarming events inside the cabin, FMC650 tracks them and sends the relevant data to the dedicated server for timely monitoring and further analysis. Fleet owners can obtain photo and video evidence for future investigations. Of course, all driver actions have different levels of risk and can influence many causes of car accidents, but here we focus mainly on two key driver activities on the road - those they cannot control, such as falling asleep, and those they do on purpose - smoking or using a mobile phone, and so on. Let's look at each of these in more detail and see how DSM helps to address them. Driver fatigue is widely recognised as a major risk factor that reduces road safety and poses a threat not only to the driver but to all road users. Because fatigue is defined in different ways, some drivers are unaware of its symptoms and may not even realise they are fatigued until an accident occurs. With this in mind, we would like to point out that DSM sends a voice warning if the driver closes his eyes for a certain period or if the driver closes his eyes again within 30 seconds. In addition, if the driver yawns twice for 3 seconds within 1 minute. Driver conscious actions: Seat belt. Failure to wear a seatbelt is the second biggest cause of death on the road, after speeding and before drunk driving. An EU road safety study concludes that measures to promote seat belt use could save up to 7,300 lives a year in the EU! Since 2006, seat belts have been compulsory in all vehicles throughout the EU. However, it is very important to use this escape among drivers and implement tools that will guide them to always use seat belts. Teltonika DSM solution will give a voice signal every time the driver doesn't fasten the seat belt while driving over 10 km/h. Using a mobile phone. Driving safely requires your full attention. Using a mobile phone while driving is very dangerous because it takes the driver’s attention away from driving. The main negative factor associated with using a mobile phone while driving, whether hands-free or hand-held, is the diversion of attention from driving to the conversation itself. Teltonika DSM solution warns the driver if he is talking on the phone for a certain period (every 30 seconds). Smoking. It is not illegal to smoke and drive. However, many companies have their policies on this and most prohibit smoking in the car as it leads to distracted driving or inability to control the vehicle, which can lead to imprisonment. The DSM camera can detect and warn the driver if he smokes for a certain time (2-4 seconds intervals). The fleet manager can analyse how often all these actions occur and how this affects the driver's safety while driving - all events of interest are sent to a dedicated server for timely and comprehensive analysis by the fleet manager. This ensures 100% accountability, detailed and solid evidence of driver behaviour on the road. With the DSM solution, this data can be used to motivate drivers and ensure a much safer, less distracted and more environmentally friendly journey. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Road accident prevention - keeps drivers accountable, disciplined, and safe. Constant tracking and monitoring of vehicle events along with an appropriate motivation system will promote desirable driving habits and improve the company’s reputation. It will help keep the driver’s focus on the road, leading to a much safer and accident-free journey. Instant and distinct notifications – a driver will receive an audible alert via a camera displayed in front of him/her whenever an event is detected. This keeps the driver’s mind on the road and hands on the wheel. Automated, hassle-free driver and event tracking, recording, monitoring, notification, and management - accurate and timely event data transfer to a dedicated fleet management server using DSM accessories and Teltonika GPS tracker features. Improves road safety and significantly reduces the risk of injury or death by preventing inappropriate behaviour and costly errors. Comprehensive DSM solution functionality to meet the needs of corporate fleets - flexible configuration for a project or business need, an impressive range of intelligent alerts and on-demand practical detections to optimise fleet management, reduce running costs, road accidents and fines, medical and insurance costs and significantly improve ROI. Improves employee discipline, desirable vehicle usage habits, and work ethics - constant tracking and monitoring of routine fleet driver events, combined with an appropriate motivation system in place, will improve the company's reputation, and optimise a workflow and its running costs. SUCCESS STORY #1 Reckless driving is one of the main causes of road accidents in Colombia, with specific behaviours, such as speeding, drunk driving, distracted driving (e.g., using mobile devices while driving), and failure to obey traffic laws significantly increasing the risk of road accidents. To address this major concern, one of our customers is improving the safety of its fleet by implementing Teltonika DSM and FMC650 vehicle trackers in the country. By providing real-time monitoring and alerts, such technologies could help keep drivers focused and accountable on the road, ultimately reducing the number of accidents. By integrating end-to-end driver monitoring technology, our client helped fleet managers detect fatigue and distraction and send instant, real-time alerts to prevent accidents. Working with a multinational company, they ensured that Teltonika's video telematics devices were installed before the trucks left the factory so that the vehicles were fully equipped from day one. This solution has noticeably reduced safety incidents, improved fleet visibility, and promoted a culture of responsible driving. SUCCESS STORY #2 Companies operating large fleets in Saudi Arabia, Neom region, struggled with time-consuming compliance checks, aiming to adhere to local traffic safety regulations. The goal was to ensure drivers followed safety rules, such as proper seatbelt usage and distraction-free driving. This required manual inspections, which increased operational costs and created bottlenecks. Moreover, with no way to monitor driver compliance between checks, fleet owners were in a constant visibility gap. To solve this challenge, a Teltonika partner deployed FMC650 trackers paired with Teltonika DSM cameras. When the cameras detected dangerous driver behaviour, such as seatbelt violations, mobile phone usage, or smoking, the system immediately issued audio alerts while automatically transmitting photo and video evidence to fleet managers. The technology encouraged drivers to maintain consistent adherence to guidelines, as footage became a tool for evidence-based performance reviews. With manual inspections eliminated, operational expenses have significantly decreased. WHY TELTONIKA? Teltonika is at the forefront of vehicle safety, offering cutting-edge solutions, such as the Driver Safety Monitoring (DSM) system. This innovative technology demonstrates our commitment to improving road safety, and reducing accident rates. • MQTT Messaging Protocol For GPS Trackers

MQTT has been designed as an exceptionally lightweight messaging transport that is perfect for connecting vehicle GPS devices MQTT MESSAGING PROTOCOL AND TELTONIKA GPS TRACKERS INTRO The constantly growing urban population, along with increasing popularity and the number of GPS devices, inevitably places a strain on communication networks. That causes connection reliability and coverage concerns to some extent. To help overcome the likely hurdles, Teltonika Telematics is ready to offer a problem-solving contribution. CHALLENGE According to the United Nations , the urban population is set to increase by almost 700 million by the year 2030, reaching a total of 5.2 billion . This represents 57% of the global population. By 2030, this figure will reach 60%. As a result, it causes the noticeably increasing number of small, inexpensive, and lower-power objects (including Internet of Things (IoT) devices) that have appeared in the network over the past few years. Keeping in mind the United Nations findings above, the trend is clearly to stay in the near future. That said, this situation creates network latency due to occasional bandwidth constraints, connection reliability, and coverage concerns in urban areas. Not to mention, the weather and environmental conditions are the influencing factors too, and they are beyond human control. These are the key challenges for the mobility and IoT industry, especially for large scale and important business operations – state, health system, emergency service, and military projects; luxury and pricey business class corporate car-sharing; mining, oil and gas industry, etc. So to say, the network reliability is the key issue here that has to be addressed. Simply, because modern-day drivers are rightly expected to access vehicles to ride in a timely manner and fleet managers counting on (and paying for) the reliable data in due time, and not otherwise. Plus, the messaging protocol of choice in vehicle GPS trackers has to be encrypted and secure. Keeping all above, Teltonika Telematics is ready to offer the solution for corporate fleets and Telematics Service Providers. SOLUTION The difficulties can be tackled by choosing a reliable, robust, and secure protocol. That is where Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (aka MQTT or MQ Telemetry Transport) comes most useful - the messaging protocol for the IoT invented in 1999 by Dr Andy Stanford-Clark ( IBM ) and Arlen Nipper ( Eurotech ). What makes it stand out, is this - MQTT has been designed as an exceptionally lightweight messaging transport that is perfect for connecting remote devices with a small code footprint and the lowest network bandwidth. A great choice for M2M communication, so for the prominent vehicle telematics projects. How it works - MQTT operates on the ‘client and broker’ principle and Publish/Subscribe architecture, where a client is any Internet of Thing that runs MQTT library (dedicated server, microcontroller, application, sensor, etc.) and broker is a passive go-between signpost server where data should go. It handles authentication of Things on the network as well as managing connections, sessions, and subscriptions. Clients connect to the broker, which then mediates communication between the two devices - broker and client-subscriber. All messages have to go through the broker before they can be delivered to the subscribers. That is how IBM company describes this mechanism and its components : 'Publishers send the messages, subscribers receive the messages they are interested in, and brokers pass the messages from the publishers to the subscribers. Publishers and subscribers are MQTT clients, which only communicate with an MQTT broker.' Based on this model, multiple clients can connect to a broker and subscribe to topics in which they are interested. Even more, MQTT is bi-directional, maintains stateful session awareness and makes it possible to significantly increase the amount of data being monitored or controlled. MQTT and TLS. This messaging standard relies on the Internet protocol suite TCP , which does not use encrypted communication. To overcome this obstacle and encrypt the entire MQTT, any broker is allowed to use Transport Layer Security (or TLS) functionality for authentication and authorisation instead of TCP. Even more, the latter option is strongly suggested and should not be ignored. You can read more about Teltonika tracker’s security here . How is it different - MQTT can scale to connect with, literally, millions of IoT devices - the sky is the limit here. It is lightweight and efficient, ensures reliable message delivery, connects and operates over unreliable cellular networks, and supports bi-directional communication to easily broadcast messages to groups of things. Finally, to ensure a high level of security, this standard makes it easy to encrypt messages using TLS and authenticate clients. HOW BUSINESSES UTILISE MQTT PROTOCOL Car dealerships and car-sharing companies track in real-time the actual vehicle location and detect the unwanted behaviour of drivers - overspeeding, harsh cornering, harsh braking, etc. If GPS trackers combined with CAN bus data adaptors (for instance, Teltonika LV-CAN200 , ECAN01 ), it would allow monitoring of various engine readings, including accurate fuel level, odometer, engine speed (aka RPM) and so on to remarkably boost business efficiency. Large companies, state-owned enterprises, international corporations with considerable size corporate fleets (including business class and luxury passenger cars) may use Teltonika GPS trackers with MQTT protocol to securely and timely monitor fuel consumption efficiency, prevent its drain or even thefts. Potentially, it can noticeably reduce the running costs of the fleet. Conclusively, various types of delivery service companies, supermarkets, shopping centres, large marketplaces, and similar businesses can take advantage of GPS device benefits to track their own fleet locations and relevant data to optimise delivery routes and avoid traffic congestions, save resources and time, improve customer service, schedule maintenance of vehicles, etc. Currently, Teltonika Telematics offers MQTT functionality with a special firmware version in FMx1 (03.27.07.Rev.520) and FMx6 (01.02.03_ID1028) series vehicle GPS trackers. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Resolved network reliability issues - because messages are so lightweight, MQTT connects over unreliable cellular networks. It allows for messages to be stored at the broker until a device is ready to receive them. The ultimate choice for large scale and high-importance projects - state, health system, emergency service, and military projects; high-priced automotive and luxury fleets; business class corporate car-sharing; oil and gas industry, etc. Secure messaging - MQTT allows to encrypt messages using TLS functionality and authenticate clients using modern authentication protocols. Reduced complexity and cost-saving - the protocol allows a single connection to a message topic; data is well-structured and can be flexibly processed. Thanks to light data load and reduced bandwidth consumption, it significantly saves project cost and improves competitiveness. Bi-directional communication - any device can publish or subscribe to any topic handled by the MQTT broker. There is no limit on what can talk or listen to across the network, a device to the cloud and a cloud to the device. Message broadcasting functionality and scalability - to speed up communication, now you can broadcast messages to a group of Things, hundreds or even millions of them. WHY TELTONIKA? The need for fast, secure, and lightweight data transfer in GPS tracking has never been greater. Teltonika's devices use the MQTT protocol to provide uninterrupted real-time communication, ensuring a smooth flow of data between fleet management systems and IoT platforms. With optimised bandwidth efficiency and enhanced security, our solutions are tailored for industries that depend on fast and reliable monitoring, such as logistics, public transport and asset monitoring. With decades of experience in telematics, Teltonika provides GPS tracking devices and accessories that meet the needs of modern businesses.
