- Waste Container Tracking With Beacons And Sensors
Vehicle tracking in extreme weather and driving conditions using Teltonika ADVANCED category GPS trackers and accessories WASTE CONTAINER TRACKING WITH ID BEACONS AND SENSORS INTRO Economic growth, swelling consumption, full-scale industrialisation have inevitably resulted in increased municipal solid waste, especially in large urban areas with multi-million populations. Unfortunately, managing waste effectively and timely becomes one of the greatest challenges. Wireless Bluetooth® technology, combined with vehicle telematics, opens up new possibilities for waste management monitoring, making a major difference. CHALLENGE According to the ' What a waste 2.0 ' article published by The World Bank, the world generates over 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste annually, with at least 33% of that not managed in an environmentally safe manner. Even more, global solid waste generation is expected to grow to 3.40 billion tonnes by 2050 (roughly 70% increase), more than double population growth over the same period. Whether it's public litter bins, recycler containers, or household waste containers, the way society and relevant companies handle their waste products is becoming increasingly important. Note this - waste management is a labour-intensive business and the costs of transportation alone are between $20–$50 per tonne. To optimise inventory management, make data-driven decisions and improve ROI, the waste management cycle and its assets, including various waste containers, should be appropriately tracked and monitored in real time. Forward-looking managers of the utility fleet grasp this simple concept - they have to know for sure if and when certain waste containers have been visited by the particular dustbin lorry; if and when a particular container has actually been emptied. Also, they must have a way and data to optimise lorry routes and service schedules based on known locations of refuse containers, be aware of technical problems or breakdowns, and keep track of the assets for which they are responsible to serve. Thanks to Teltonika EYE Beacon and EYE Sensor models with smart features, wireless Bluetooth® technology and a wide range of vehicle GPS tracker portfolio , there are ways to overcome these challenges achieving desirable results. SOLUTION How it works with EYE Beacon - because each one has a unique ID number transmitted over the air as a radio signal at configurable intervals, FMB130 devices mounted in waste collection vehicles read, identify them and send this data as iBeacon or Eddystone profile, combined with its GNSS location details, to a server for analysis and reports. Special software conveniently displays the location of all beacons (in other words, tagged containers) based on the proximity to the nearest Teltonika GPS tracker within Bluetooth® range, the time of arrival and the time spent near the containers. What's more, the smart tracking software feature called 'Proximity Events' allows managers to group waste containers according to the proximity to the lorry attribute if needed. How it works with EYE Sensor - this accessory model not only transmits a unique identification number over the air but also has an accelerometer with some built-in functions that are convenient for this use case, such as 'Movement status and count' and 'Angle status'. We can use them to identify the waste containers, track and count their movements and tilt angle data altogether in one go. When a waste collection vehicle is nearby and sensors are within range of a Bluetooth® signal, FMB130 tracker will register these events and transfer the data to a dedicated server, confirming the fact that containers have been moved, lifted, and emptied. Because of that, all assets can be monitored in real-time this way notably improving the efficiency of routine operations, containers and fleet management. But here, in Teltonika, we go even further… SMART FEATURES FOR MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY Among other advantages, both EYE Beacon and EYE Sensor have several smart features built into their firmware. Thanks to one of them - 'Filtering by name' - and advanced Teltonika GPS device configuration functionality, it offers a wide range of settings and scenarios to meet the tracking needs of waste and recycling fleets. The custom filtering feature allows to group and name assets by a specific attribute or property meaningful to business operations. This on-demand grouping provides greater clarity, precision, speed of operations, and helps to avoid pricey mistakes. For instance, if EYE Sensors are being used, there are two ways, how to add and set up them in Teltonika Configurator . The first one – the commonly used method of adding the MAC address of each sensor allowing to support up to 4 of them at a time per GPS tracker. The second one is the more innovative method by adding EYE Sensors only ‘By Name’. Here, the vehicle tracker will gather data from each sensor based on its name, not MAC address. The latter method allows up to 100 devices to be scanned. As a result, there is no need to reconfigure MAC addresses again in Teltonika GPS tracker if sensors have been changed. It is sufficient to just type in the names respectively using the configurator tool, this way saving precious time avoiding mistakes. Teltonika beacons with intuitive Android/iOS mobile applications and configurable to customer needs can be promptly integrated into virtually any size fleet. EYE Beacons can be easy to install, deploy, and replaced if broken or stolen. For the ultimate convenience and practicality, firmware updates and configuration changes of Teltonika vehicle trackers can be made using FOTA WEB tool - the software solution, helping to save precious time and manage GPS devices remotely with maximum efficiency. Altogether, this contemporary tracking approach allows noticeably boost the efficiency of the waste management business, its reputation, profitability, and competitiveness. You can read more about the waste transport management use case here . - Advanced ATM Security With FMC650 Tracker
Prevent theft and ensure efficiency in remote or low-light areas by securing ATMs with Teltonika FMC650 GPS tracker and EYE Sensor ADVANCED ATM SECURITY WITH FMC650 TRACKER INTRO Ensuring the security of financial transactions and banking equipment is vital. Physical attacks on ATMs in the EU increased by 24% in 2023 , while the US saw a 165% increase in such incidents from 2021 to 2022. In recognition of this growing threat, Teltonika offers advanced GPS tracking solutions to strengthen ATM security. CHALLENGE Automated teller machines (ATMs) are particularly vulnerable due to their public accessibility and the large amounts of cash they hold, making them prime targets for theft. Situated in a variety of locations - from busy city centres to remote, less secure areas - these machines are exposed to a wide range of potential threats. While their accessibility to the public is convenient, it also increases the risk of them being targeted by criminals seeking quick financial gain. The substantial cash reserves stored in ATMs significantly increase their attractiveness to thieves and make them an appealing target. Criminals are often well-prepared and use advanced tools and methods to breach the physical security of these machines. Despite their robust and reinforced design, ATMs are not immune to attacks involving explosives, cutting tools, or vehicles used to forcibly remove them from their installation sites. Moreover, the strategic placement of ATMs, meant to serve customers efficiently, inadvertently contributes to their vulnerability. Such machines in more isolated or low-light locations are particularly vulnerable, as these locations offer criminals more opportunities to carry out their plans without immediate detection. This challenge requires financial institutions and banks to continually innovate and implement robust security measures to protect these valuable assets and ensure the safety of their operations. SOLUTION To meet the security challenges of ATMs, Teltonika's telematics division offers a unique solution centred around FMC650 GPS tracker. This PROFESSIONAL category device is perfectly suited to provide robust security benefits for ATMs, both indoors and outdoors. How it works - FMC650 model must be installed inside an ATM and connected to a cellular network via its external antenna, ensuring strong data transmission even through the steel construction of the enforced machine. The tracker is wired to the ATM's power supply and communication systems, enabling continuous monitoring and data transmission. In addition to FMC650, Teltonika EYE Sensors are used to enhance the security setup. These compact devices connect to Teltonika GPS tracker via Bluetooth® . EYE Sensors detect various events, such as door openings and movement, which are critical indicators of potential tampering or theft attempts. If an ATM door is opened without authorisation, EYE Sensor instantly sends an alarm to FMC650, which then transmits this information to the surveillance system, helping to prevent unwanted access. FMC650 model also has a built-in accelerometer for tilt detection. If the angle of the ATM changes significantly, indicating possible tampering or movement, the accelerometer registers the event and triggers an alarm. This feature works by detecting changes in the orientation of the device and can activate a timer when the ignition signal is switched off, monitoring for any significant angle changes during this period. The integration of these technologies and Teltonika devices creates a comprehensive security solution that not only deters theft but also facilitates rapid recovery in the event of an incident. Instant alerts and location tracking enable rapid intervention by authorities, significantly reducing the financial and operational impact of ATM theft. Teltonika solution also supports preventive maintenance, ensuring that ATMs are always in optimal working condition and reducing downtime. FMC650's dual SIM slots and ability to connect to the Iridium Edge® satellite modem provide reliable coverage, making it ideal for ATMs in remote areas, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring and communication. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Improved theft prevention - with Teltonika FMC650 GPS trackers installed, ATMs become a much less attractive target for criminals. The knowledge that these machines are equipped with advanced tracking and monitoring systems deters potential thieves, reducing the likelihood of attempted theft. Rapid incident response - in the event of a theft in progress, FMC650 and EYE Sensor provide relevant data, enabling swift intervention by the authorities. Immediate alerts and precise tracking facilitate the rapid recovery of stolen ATMs, minimising financial loss and operational disruption. Comprehensive security monitoring - the combination of EYE Sensors and FMC650 ensures continuous monitoring of ATMs. Teltonika sensors detect door openings and any unauthorised movement, sending instant alerts to the surveillance system. - GPS Tracker Deployment And Maintenance With FOTA WEB
Boost efficiency and effectiveness using FOTA WEB to remotely deploy and maintain Teltonika GPS trackers GPS TRACKER DEPLOYMENT AND MAINTENANCE WITH FOTA WEB INTRO Vehicle telematics is a fast-growing industry. According to Fortune Business Insights , its global market size reached $72.85 billion in 2022 and is estimated to grow to $280.78 billion by 2030. This growth means new opportunities and new challenges for telematics service providers. CHALLENGE Implementing a telematics project takes skill and dedication. From analysing customer requirements to selecting the right technology partner and deploying the solution in the field, service providers face many challenges. However, an IoT professional rarely has the luxury of focusing on one customer at a time. According to our research, an average service provider manages around 5.6 thousand IoT devices belonging to multiple end clients. The customer projects that the service provider has to manage have different levels of complexity, implementation stages and service-level agreements. To manage this number of devices and a variety of projects, a service provider must ensure cost-effective device implementation, provide timely device maintenance, and adapt projects as customers' business needs change. Sure, these challenges could be addressed by expanding the engineering team. But let's consider the cost of an expert's time. We estimate that it takes between 5 and 10 minutes to manually set up and configure a device. This means that just preparing 5.6 thousand GPS devices for deployment would require more than 900 engineering hours. In Lithuania, that would mean around 15,000 euros of extra cost. What is more, the actual cost of deploying devices would be even higher due to the regular maintenance and project adjustments required by the end customer. The only way to reduce the cost of operations is to implement a tracking GPS device management solution that provides scalability and remote access to the hardware installed in the customer's fleet. SOLUTION Teltonika Telematics offers all its GPS trackers with FOTA WEB - a versatile cloud-based device management platform. To demonstrate the solution, let's take the next-generation FTC921 model as an example to see how FOTA WEB helps to optimise the telematics provider's operations. How it works – once a telematics service provider orders a shipment of FTC921 or any other Teltonika Telematics tracking device, the shipment is reflected in its FOTA WEB account. The virtual counterparts of the real devices with corresponding IMEIs are automatically created in corresponding service provider company. As long as the devices are not connected, they would have an ‘inactive’ status. This is the stock that a telematics provider could use to implement one of the projects in the pipeline, for example green driving solution . To streamline the project implementation in the field, a proper FOTA WEB setup should be prepared. Service providers can create a structure of child companies and distribute the stock of devices among them. This approach makes it possible to link customer fleets with specific IoT hardware to be installed in the vehicles. In addition, each child company has its own file storage - a dedicated place to upload project-specific device configuration or custom firmware developed specifically for that customer. To ensure that the devices have the correct configuration when they are switched on, the service provider sets up Update Configuration Task. This eliminates the need to update each device individually. FOTA WEB allows the creation of groups of tasks to speed up the process of setting up the GPS devices. All the service provider needs to do is create a configuration file in TCT , upload it to the right company and create a group of tasks for a selected set of devices. Once the installation team has inserted SIM cards into the devices and connected them to the power supply, the devices will check the built-in APN database to find a mobile network and connect to FOTA WEB. Once a stable connection is established, GPS trackers perform configuration update tasks previously created by the service provider. This simple operation eliminates the need for individual device configuration and helps ensure that the settings applied are replicated correctly to all devices. But how do you deal with situations where customers have a mixed set of devices needed to monitor different aspects of the business: heavy goods vehicles, light commercial vehicles and lone workers all at the same time? FOTA WEB makes it possible to group the devices within a company to apply different device configurations for each use case. In addition, the tool allows to assign a specific firmware and/or configuration to each group. This functionality is invaluable for future tracker maintenance as it helps to automate the GPS device update process. Once the firmware and/or configuration has been assigned to a group, FOTA WEB automatically creates the corresponding update tasks. What is more, if the customer’s fleet expands, adding newly installed devices to a group is enough to trigger its remote configuration. To track task performance, a service provider can use the Task Groups page. Colour-coded statuses allow to identify potential issues and retry tasks that have failed due to mobile network issues, for example. The big picture of your tracking devices is always available on the Dashboard page. It shows if your devices are online and detects those that haven't connected to FOTA WEB in the last 24 hours. This remote monitoring allows you to send your device maintenance engineers into the field only when you need them. Last but not least, all device management and monitoring tasks can be performed via the API. Service providers can set up seamless integration between FOTA WEB and other corporate systems: fleet management platform, ERP, CRM, and Partner Portal/HelpDesk systems. This integration minimises the risk of human error and reduces the time needed to perform device update tasks. Read more about FOTA WEB functionality here . - Teltonika DualCam Solution For Detailed Accident Evidence
Teltonika GPS tracking solution enhanced with Teltonika DualCam capabilities TELTONIKA DUALCAM SOLUTION FOR DETAILED ACCIDENT EVIDENCE INTRO All kinds of unpredictable situations occur on the road – from accidents caused by technical issues or careless driving to various crimes and other incidents punishable by law. No matter what happens, one thing is for sure – having detailed proof about the event will make things much simpler and easier. This is exactly what Teltonika Telematics has to offer – a GPS tracking solution enhanced with Teltonika DualCam possibilities. CHALLENGE For a company, having a fleet inevitably means a need to deal with incidents where vehicles are involved . Car crashes are among the most common ones. The causes of road accidents are many and determining the real one can be a tough task, especially when the parties concerned, based on one’s own interest, tend to tell rather different stories. How to know – who is right and who is wrong? With no driver being immune to accidents on the road, traffic-related issues are especially relevant for such industries as delivery and passenger transportation services, logistics, and insurance. There are even cases when drivers are faced with particularly malicious incidents – intentional car crashes made to look like they are the other party’s fault. Without having hard evidence (e.g., video recording), it is very difficult to prove one’s innocence. When it comes to taxis and ride-sharing services, the personal safety of the drivers and passengers is one of the major issues that companies confront with. The risks can rise from either side – the clients or the driver – and take the form of robbing a driver or assaulting and harassing a passenger. For a business to run smoothly, the chances of such crimes need to be reduced to a minimum. SOLUTION Teltonika Telematics makes dealing with the above-mentioned challenges as effective as possible. Our innovative solution combines FMC125 tracking devices with the dedicated Teltonika DualCam providing comprehensive information – including video records, images, and vehicle-related details – whenever an incident occurs. Teltonika DualCam functionality means that the device, mounted on the windshield, records view in both directions – the front, i.e. what is happening on the road, and the back, i.e. the driver and the passengers if they are present. By capturing other traffic participants, filming the front exterior is invaluable in cases of car accidents, meanwhile, recording the interior of a car gives a clear view of what is going on inside the vehicle. The wide-angle camera captures the driver as well, thus, it can be seen if any of his or her actions have contributed to the unwanted consequences – for example, holding a phone, chatting to the passengers, not paying attention to the road, etc. Having a camera installed can work as an effective preventive measure against any bad intentions – both from the driver’s and the passenger’s side. Sending video records can be triggered automatically or demanded by request. Automatic sending is activated with the detection of a car crash or by pushing the panic button. Recordings of the front camera 5 seconds before and after and from the back camera 5 seconds before and after the event will be sent to the server. Thus, the fleet owner will have video footage of 20 seconds to evaluate the incident. If needed, a video can also be requested by sending SMS/GPRS command based on certain events – including but not limited to Overspeeding, Harsh Acceleration, Harsh Braking, Harsh Cornering, Towing, Jamming, etc. and indicating a specific time of recording, i.e. timestamp. A record of up to 30 seconds long can be sent to the server. When using a vehicle, the camera is filming constantly and saves video footage to a MicroSD card 64 GB for the duration of up to 72 hours. Likewise, along with video footage, photos can also be sent to the server – either by request or periodically based on the set time intervals. Talking about the technical side, Teltonika DualCam is connected over an RS232 interface, videos are made in the resolution of 720p, and High-Efficiently Video Coding H.265 substantially improves video quality keeping the files low at the size and ensures high transfer speed. Our solution comes with FMC125 tracking devices, which provide a wealth of information and possibilities themselves. To start with, monitoring a vehicle’s location can do wonders for business efficiency . The larger the fleet, the greater the benefits – effective resource management, optimisation of costs, increased safety, and easy handling of maintenance issues are just a few to mention. The functionality of our tracking devices is further expanded with Bluetooth® LE technology . Wireless sensors can monitor temperature, humidity, movement and other parameters, while beacons can be used to authenticate drivers or passengers, track trailers and act as immobilizers. FMC125 trackers also support an RS485 interface that allows communication with such external devices as multiple digital fuel sensors (LLS) or sending data in TCP ASCII/Binary mode. Meanwhile, 1-wire can be used for monitoring temperature data and RFID/iButton tags. Thanks to the Dual-SIM feature, roaming costs will be reduced significantly . When crossing borders between countries, the coverage of one operator is often not enough. Having another SIM card in the tracking device will easily solve this problem. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Crucial information about the incidents on the road - video records and photos allow understanding clearly what has happened and why. Seeing both ways - filming the road ahead and the interior of a vehicle, including the driver. Effective preventive measure - encouraging safe driving and restricting disruptive behaviour inside the vehicle by sending periodic images. Automatically or by request - choose your way of receiving video records and photos. Efficient fleet management - utilising GPS trackers’ functionalities to improve business efficiency. SUCCESS STORY In Ghana, our client was one of the first companies to offer end users CAN data reading GPS trackers combined with video telematics solutions. Teltonika DualCam was brought on board along with FMC125 trackers. This combination allowed companies to capture video and use it as evidence in the event of an accident, while also enabling close monitoring of drivers' actions. One particular incident illustrates the value of this technology. There was a collision between an oil truck and a car on a roundabout. Teltonika DualCam solution recorded the incident and sent the video footage to the fleet management server. As a result of this timely evidence, the truck driver did not even have to appear in court - the video evidence alone was enough for the court to rule in his favour. As this example shows, Teltonika's video telematics solutions can effectively help companies save time and avoid legal hassles. WHY TELTONIKA? Driver safety and fleet security require a proactive approach, and Teltonika DualCam solution delivers just that. By capturing both interior and exterior perspectives in high definition, our advanced video telematics system provides fleet managers with full visibility of on-road activities, helping to improve driver training, reduce insurance costs, and increase overall operational efficiency. - Anti-Theft Solution And Stolen Vehicle Recovery
Vehicle theft is one of the world’s fastest-growing crimes as thieves turn to using highly advanced equipment, e.g. jammers ANTI-THEFT SOLUTION AND STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERY INTRO Vehicle theft is one of the world’s fastest-growing crimes as thieves turn to using advanced equipment. By jamming GSM or GNSS signals, or disconnecting GPS trackers from vehicles, criminals aim to disrupt and inhibit the performance of a tracking device – its ability to monitor and gather important information. Luckily, Teltonika trackers have a functionality that can detect jamming and help prevent theft or recover a stolen vehicle. CHALLENGE Experienced thieves can be highly organised and steal a vehicle in seconds. Meanwhile, police fail to recover more than half of stolen vehicles. For criminals, it is a low-risk way to make a fortune. For example, the Driving Instructors Association reports that an average of 159 vehicles are stolen every day in the UK. First and foremost, thieves will target vehicles that are easy to steal, i.e. that can be stolen quickly and without attracting attention. Speed is of the utmost importance to thieves as they risk being caught and try to get away as quickly as possible. So, if you want to make your vehicle or fleet less attractive to thieves, think about how you can slow them down in the process of stealing - even a few seconds can make a difference. SOLUTION Anything that forces thieves and joyriders to spend more time on a vehicle makes it a much less attractive target. It is the most effective way to prevent car theft and make criminals look for something else to steal. How it works - Teltonika telematics business unit offers a range of GPS trackers with a rich set of features to ensure protection against theft or to help find stolen vehicles, such as FMx920 series devices. They are perfect for people who want a simple solution. They are compact and easy to hide in a vehicle, making it easy to track and recover your car if it's stolen. Thieves often choose to disable the communication signal between the tracker and the server to inhibit the performance of the device. Most of the time jamming is usually used to block the GSM or GNSS signal of the tracker. But with Teltonika FMx920 series, such an event can be detected and one of the jamming features can be activated: Activate alarm system - even though vehicles have different alarm systems, professional thieves know how to disable them and remain silent throughout the theft process. Teltonika tracker with Jamming detection can help prevent theft by distracting criminals with an additional alarm connected to a tracker. Vehicle engine starter - blocks the ability to start the engine. If jamming is detected, a tracker can block the vehicle's engine starter, eliminating the possibility of starting the engine at all. This is likely to give thieves extra time to steal a vehicle or even abandon the theft. Central lock system - locks all car doors. If all vehicle doors are locked, thieves will have to work harder to get into a vehicle, or will not be able to break in at all. In addition, FMx920 trackers come with a range of features designed to make vehicles safer and keep drivers informed of any suspicious activity. One such feature is Towing detection , which alerts the driver to the unexpected movement of the parked vehicle. FMx920 generates an event if the car is being towed or lifted, for example in the event of an evacuation. There is no need to worry about thieves finding the GPS tracker and unplugging it, the implemented Unplug detection feature ensures drivers know when the GPS connection is lost, generating an event when the tracker is unplugged or reconnected. Even more, the Auto geofence feature allows you to define specific zones and receive notifications if your vehicle moves outside of these designated areas based on the last known position after the movement has stopped and the ignition is off. Drivers can specify whether entering or leaving the geofence zone should trigger an event and alert the driver. This feature provides added control and awareness, allowing drivers to monitor their vehicle's movements. Finally, for added protection, two GPS tracking devices can be used in the same car with a backup tracker functionality. Taking advantage of FMx920 compact size, it can be used as a second hidden tracker; if one is disconnected, the other will continue to transmit its location data, providing data for the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Furthermore, for people who not only want to be alerted to potential theft attempts on their vehicles but also require a tracker capable of providing continuous location updates without an external power source, Teltonika FMC234 model offers an excellent solution. Its high-capacity 1,000 mAh battery provides up to 8 days of continuous operation on a single charge, meeting the stringent certification standards of Pulse, Thatcham and Supply Chain Management in Northern Europe. These certificates require certain specifications for a device to meet: high-capacity battery guaranteeing device operating time of 6 hours while transmitting data every 1 minute, IP67-rated casing and stolen vehicle recovery feature is also a requirement, ensuring a possibility to recover data and to determine the location of the vehicle. By meeting the requirements for these certificates, FMC234 tracker ensures its suitability as a stolen vehicle recovery solution. In summary, Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers provide a diverse solution to minimise the chances of your vehicle being stolen. By slowing down thieves and alerting owners to unauthorised movements, these trackers enhance security and increase the chances of recovery in the event of theft. With vehicle theft a growing concern worldwide, the importance of effective tracking solutions cannot be overstated. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Keep your vehicle safe - prevent loss by detecting suspicious behaviour, enabling or disabling some vehicle systems and effectively slowing down car thieves. Ensure stolen vehicle recovery - up to 8 days of autonomous tracking with a high-capacity internal battery. Double vehicle security - using a dual GPS tracker system provides double protection for your vehicles. Tamper alerts - receive alerts when the tracker is unplugged, ensuring you are always aware of potential tampering. Advanced jamming detection - detect attempts to jam GNSS or GSM radio signals. Real-time monitoring - Instant notifications in real-time ensure protection against crime. SUCCESS STORY Services that save time and make life easier are more popular than ever, especially at a time when convenience is everything. Just as online shopping has grown, so has the demand for reliable and accessible clothing care. Like any other enterprise, running a dry-cleaning business requires strict security measures. One such company in Denmark had its vans stolen. Early one morning, a driver discovered that his assigned van was missing, along with its spare keys. Thanks to the fleet management system and Teltonika FMB020 OBD tracker installed in the van, which was the most suitable tracker for their business due to its ease of installation and small size, the company was able to quickly locate the stolen vehicle, which was parked in a residential area not far from the company's headquarters. The tracking data, including route and stops, showed that the thief had used the van to transport stolen goods from a local hotel. With this accurate information, law enforcement quickly recovered the items and returned them to the hotel. Following this event, the company upgraded its fleet security measures by enabling more tracking device features. Using geofencing, managers can now receive instant alerts if vehicles are moved at unusual times or outside working hours, providing excellent protection against theft . WHY TELTONIKA? We are at the forefront of vehicle security, providing smart anti-theft solutions that utilise advanced GPS and telematics technology. - Trailers Tracking With Bluetooth® Beacons
Trailers tracking utilising brand new wireless Bluetooth® Teltonika EYE Beacons and vehicle GPS trackers TRAILER TRACKING WITH BLUETOOTH® ID BEACONS INTRO The logistics industry is an essential part of any economy, and the driving force behind many sectors: trade, manufacturing, agriculture, e-commerce, and services. Trailers are an integral part of the transport system, and they have to be managed efficiently to remain competitive and profitable. Wireless Bluetooth® technology combined with vehicle GPS tracking opens up new opportunities for fleet monitoring, making a significant difference. CHALLENGE Did you know, according to the Automobile Trailers Global Market Report , the global automobile trailers market was valued at $20.3 billion in 2021 and keeps growing? Any size experienced fleet manager is aware proper trailers and tanks management is a vital part of logistics business operations - domestic or international. Failing to do so, eventually, will cause fleet assets disarrangement, thefts or unauthorised use, delays, customer complaints, weakened reputation and competitiveness, fewer orders, lower profits and ROI. It is not a nice to have option anymore, it is a business necessity to help a logistics company stay afloat. Dispatchers, fleet managers, and corporate leaders need to know a trailer status in real-time — location, mileage, which driver is using it, whether it has dropped off or picked up a load, how many stops it has made on a given day or route, what is a trailer parking location, which driver is the closest to that trailer and so on? Yet more, managers in charge have to know each asset productivity — how many hours have they have used the particular trailer in a given shift, week, month or quarter? It is a widespread practice in most businesses to keep assets and employees accountable by recording, tracking, and analysing their workload one way or another. Thanks to Teltonika Telematics newly introduced EYE Beacon model, wireless Bluetooth® technology and clever thinking, there are ways to overcome these challenges in a trouble-free way with maximum results. SOLUTION All Teltonika GPS trackers based on the FMB platform support wireless Bluetooth® LE connectivity, so they can effectively communicate with wireless Bluetooth® devices such as beacons and sensors. The lightweight and small EYE Beacons should be attached at the front of every type of trailer to be tracked and monitored - flatbed, chassis, and box trailers, dry van trailers, reefer trailers, intermodal chassis and/or containers, refrigerated trailers, life haul trailers, frac tanks, etc. How it works - because each Bluetooth® LE beacon has a unique ID number transmitted over the air as a radio signal at configurable intervals, Teltonika GPS trackers (in this case, FMC130 ) mounted in lorries and trucks read, identify them and send this data as iBeacon or Eddystone profile, combined with its GNSS location details, to a server for analysis and reports. Dedicated software shows all beacons (thus, tagged fleet assents) location based on proximity to the closest tracker, helps with BLE accessories assignment procedure management and so on. Even more, every trailer with an EYE Beacon attached to it can be tracked in real-time via any smart device with an internet connection – phone, tablet computer, laptop, or desktop PC. As a result, fleet managers know exactly what is going on and can plan their further actions timely and efficient. No more the old-fashioned ‘pen and paper’ methods or guesswork whatsoever which is known to be impractical and error-prone. The EYE Beacon model has two prominent features - ‘Proximity Event’ and ‘Filtering by Name’. Thanks to them and the advanced Teltonika GPS device configuration functionality, it provides a choice of various settings and scenarios to satisfy logistics fleet tracking needs. ‘Proximity Event’ - for instance, a vehicle tracker can generate asset proximity events depending on Bluetooth® signal strength. This way, trailers with a specified distance from a lorry will be tracked, but others beyond that range will be ignored. Here two distinctive events can be set up - a lorry gets near the trailer and enters the tracking zone - event #1; a lorry moves away from the trailer and leaves the tracking zone - event #2. Also, it allows determining each moving beacon (so, the trailer of interest) locations grouped into ‘Near’, and ‘Away’ zones. ‘Filtering by Name’ - the custom filtering feature allows to group assets by a specific attribute or property meaningful to business operations (e.g., by different trailer types) or track only own listed fleet ID beacons and ignore others if there are some around. These handy event scenarios help to monitor, manage, and optimise corporate fleet assets use with maximum efficiency, this way avoiding costly mistakes, keeping a fleet well organised, saving time and company resources. Bluetooth® connectivity has low cost, high-energy efficiency, accuracy, and is highly affordable. These accessories can be easy to install, deploy, and replace if broken. Teltonika beacons with configurable to exact customer need signal strength and data transmitting intervals can be swiftly integrated into virtually any size fleet. Altogether, this may noticeably boost business reputation, profitability, and competitiveness, to say at least. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Precise asset tracking anytime, anywhere - corporate leaders, fleet management, and dispatchers can monitor any trailer status in real time around the globe. 100% accountability of everything important to the logistics business and fleet efficiency. Effortless inclusion of Teltonika EYE Beacons – adding tracking and monitoring functionalities easily and quickly for the current users of vehicle telematics solutions. Value-adding smart EYE Beacon features - 'Proximity Event' and 'Filtering by Name' practical event scenarios help to track, monitor, manage, and optimise trailer utilisation with supreme efficiency. Wireless and affordable - Bluetooth® connectivity ensures fast installation and setup, low interference, power consumption and is inexpensive. If damaged, lost or stolen, the Teltonika BLE accessory can be quickly replaced. Improved company reputation, competitiveness, and profitability - timely deliveries, considerable cost savings because of cutting valuable assets and loss of goods expenses, anti-theft protection to boost profits, improved cash flow and expansion opportunities. SUCCESS STORY A fuel distribution company in Iraq faced the challenge of identifying which trailer was connected to which truck and which driver was operating each vehicle. This lack of visibility made it difficult to manage fuel distribution efficiently, verify transport records, and detect any discrepancies or irregularities that could lead to financial losses. To solve this challenge, each trailer was equipped with an ATEX-certified EYE Beacon ATEX model for trailer identification, and each driver was provided with a standard EYE Beacon for driver identification. Teltonika FMC650 trackers were installed in the trucks to receive the beacon signals and read the CAN bus data to monitor key vehicle parameters, such as fuel consumption, engine performance, and operating hours. This approach gave the company exactly what it needed to improve business efficiency: a clear and automated way to know which trailer is connected to which truck, which driver is behind the wheel, and how the vehicle and fleet are performing. WHY TELTONIKA? Teltonika Telematics expertise in fleet management is unrivalled, particularly in the area of wireless tracking solutions. Our Bluetooth® LE ID beacons demonstrate our commitment to providing cutting-edge technology that meets the complex demands of modern logistics. - Driver Identification With Bluetooth® ID Beacons Copy
Driver identification and time tracking utilising Bluetooth® wireless EYE Beacons and Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers WIRELESS DRIVER IDENTIFICATION AND TIME TRACKING WITH ID BEACONS (JP) INTRO Even though there are breakthrough innovations in telematics technologies, the use of old-fashioned paper timesheets and doubtful solutions remain widespread worldwide, leaving space for misunderstandings and inefficient drivers’ time management . To address this issue and create opportunities for more effective business, Teltonika presents an automated timekeeping solution using GPS trackers and Bluetooth® ID beacons. CHALLENGE Employees’ productivity is critically important in a logistics business, especially when the world is facing a shortage of delivery drivers . Moreover, because driver-related costs are among the biggest challenges for the transportation and logistics industry and fleet repair and maintenance costs continue to increase , fleet managers face a challenge ensuring that drivers use their time as efficiently as possible, low-cost vehicles and their accessories maintenance. It is a widespread practice to track drivers’ working hours and keep them accountable in transport and logistics, construction, forestry, agriculture, healthcare, retail, manufacturing and similar industries. It is common to track it with hard copy timesheets or 1-Wire authentication devices. However, the ‘Pen and paper’ method is prone to errors, misuse and manipulations, while 1-Wire authentication is not a wireless solution and requires mechanical installation of an RFID reader, which has to be maintained, for example, fixed if a wire is damaged. A driver must touch an ID card to a reader, and if it is forgotten, the working time will not be accounted for, which may lead to unwanted disputes, errors in relevant reports, calculation of wages, etc. It is important to keep the driver accountable without wasting their time on such actions as logging time in paper sheets or searching for an employee authentication card and then using it for verification. Efficient fleet management requires fully automated and reliable driver time tracking with the lowest installation and maintenance costs, and Teltonika can help to achieve this. SOLUTION To meet these challenges in commercial vehicles and other industry fleets, Teltonika wireless devices can be successfully utilised. EYE Beacons , for instance, allow seamless driver identification using Bluetooth® Low Energy technology. Being functional but small, they are very convenient to attach, practically, anywhere, for example, on a driver’s keychain. Each Teltonika EYE Beacon has its unique identification numbe,r which is used for driver authentication and the exact electronic date and time stamping. It helps to save time since the authentication is fully automatic, meaning that the driver does not have to do anything but get directly to work. As a result, the working hours of all drivers are automatically and effortlessly tracked with these Teltonika devices. Even more, the cost of deploying such a solution is low, especially in vehicles that are already equipped with Bluetooth® LE-compatible Teltonika GPS trackers, such as FMM130 model, which we use as an example here. The EYE-type devices for driver authentication do not require the installation of any mechanical readers or additional devices and wires. Fleet management devices can be remotely configured via FOTA WEB tool in advance to identify EYE Beacons, so there is no need to even access a vehicle to set it up. The solution can be used on a wide range of vehicles - trucks, lorries, buses, delivery services and utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles, etc. EYE Beacons are easy to maintain, have IP67-rated casing and a battery life of up to 10 years. Furthermore, this wireless authentication method can be used along with an immobilizer via the DOUT output to start the vehicle only when the driver approaches it. Keep in mind that studies show that the uniform use of immobilizers reduces car theft by 40%. In summary, EYE Beacons in combination with Teltonika GPS trackers provide fully automatic, convenient and seamless driver authentication and time tracking without the need for any additional installation of mechanical devices and/or wiring, resulting in a noticeable increase in business productivity, improved employee discipline and savings in fleet operating costs. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Fully automated driver authentication - accurate and easy-to-use personnel clocking method utilising Bluetooth® LE technology, relevant vehicle GPS trackers, and ID beacons. Tracked data can be accessed anytime and anywhere via PC, tablet, and smartphone. - Managing Public Spaces With GPS Trackers
Teltonika GPS trackers and blockchain technology: Transforming the way public spaces are managed MANAGING PUBLIC SPACES WITH GPS TRACKERS & BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY INTRO Emergency and utility fleets operating in urban environments often face challenges associated with various types of controlled obstacles in public spaces. This can lead to unwanted delays, inefficient responses, safety issues, etc. By addressing these concerns with smart and secure technology and Teltonika GPS trackers, city authorities and companies can improve the efficiency and transparency of their services. CHALLENGE In urban areas and public spaces with limited access, emergency and utility vehicle fleets face several challenges related to barriers, doors, lifts, gates, intercoms, and similar controlled objects in modern cities. In scenarios where rapid response is critical, such as medical emergencies, fires or security breaches, every second lost due to logistical barriers can have dire consequences. Traditional methods of accessing locked or restricted areas often require manual intervention, be it physical keys, security guards or remote authorisation processes. These approaches introduce delays and vulnerabilities, including the risk of keys being misplaced, locks being tampered with, or communication failures with central control rooms. That said, efficiency of service and timely response play a vital role in overcoming these challenges. Let's go through some of the key aspects of them. Inefficient emergency response: Emergency services could face delays due to physical barriers and the need for manual intervention to gain access to restricted areas. This could lead to critical delays in situations where every second counts, potentially resulting in loss of life or more serious outcomes in emergencies. Lack of data integrity and transparency: The reliability and transparency of data related to access control and management could be compromised. This could lead to mistrust among residents and stakeholders in the management of public services, and increase opportunities for fraud or manipulation of data. Security vulnerabilities: Physical keys, remote controls or manual access controls can be lost, stolen or duplicated, compromising the security of restricted areas. Without the secure and encrypted nature of blockchain-based virtual keys, public spaces could be more vulnerable to unauthorized access, and potential security breaches. To address the above, a public space management system based on blockchain technology – a universal communication standard for IoT devices - can be used. We believe this is the right way to create this type of service for smart cities all over the world. SOLUTION The solution involves the integration of one of Teltonika GPS trackers, blockchain technology, the dedicated mobile app, and smartphones to provide a seamless and secure method of admission control in various public spaces with limited access, such as housing estates, schools, office buildings, hospitals, etc. Here, for demonstration purposes, we choose the BASIC category GPS tracker FMB920 with a special customised version of the firmware. How it works - even though FMB920 is designed to be mounted on vehicles, here the GPS tracker must be connected to existing control mechanisms on gates or barriers. It is equipped with a SIM card that connects it to the cellular network, allowing remote communication and control. FMB920 integration into blockchain ensures secure transactions and operations, as it can recognise and respond to commands issued by verified users on the network. Teltonika tracker provides the location coordinates of a specific barrier, acting as a bridge between the physical barrier and the digital control provided by the blockchain and a dedicated mobile app. Platforms of blockchain technology, a universal communication standard for IoT devices, provide a secure and transparent platform for transactions and data exchange. It enables the issuing of virtual keys in the form of NFTs ( Non-Fungible Tokens ) to verified users. These virtual keys can perform actions, such as opening barriers, without the need for physical interaction or the presence of third-party security personnel. The inherent security features of the blockchain ensure that the keys cannot be duplicated or misused, as only authorised users can initiate and execute such transactions. The dedicated mobile app is a user interface allowing individuals to interact with the system via smartphones. Users can open barriers remotely using the app, which communicates the command via the blockchain to Teltonika device that controls the barrier. The app's functionality includes generating single-use keys for temporary access, which is particularly useful for guests or emergencies where immediate access is required without compromising security. By approaching the barrier and selecting a point on the virtual map in the app, users (drivers, members of emergency and utility vehicle crew) can remotely open the selected barrier. Finally, smartphones play a crucial role in this system, serving as the device through which users interact with the dedicated app. Thanks to it, the rushing drivers can select the barrier they want to open on a virtual map, and the app communicates this command to the blockchain network, which then signals FMB920 tracker to open the chosen barrier. This direct communication between the smartphone and the barrier mechanism, facilitated by GPS trackers and blockchain technology, allows a seamless, secure, and efficient way of access control. For example, an ambulance crew responding to an incident can open a barrier remotely using a smartphone without stopping and wasting valuable time, while saving the lives and health of people in need. In summary, this solution combines the reliability and connectivity of Teltonika FMB920 tracking device with the security and transparency of blockchain technology, and the accessibility of smartphones to create a sophisticated, efficient, and secure access control system suitable for smart city, business, or individual applications, as well as utility transport, and emergency services. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Enhanced security - blockchain's immutable ledger ensures secure, tamper-proof data transactions for access control. Efficient access management - the system enables instant, remote operation of gates or barriers, which is critical for emergency response and utility fleets. Scalability - versatile and adaptable to different public spaces, urban areas, and fleet sizes to accommodate growth and varying operational needs. Reduced operational costs - automating access control minimises the need for manual supervision and physical keys. Simplified restricted area management - the system streamlines the process of managing access rights, reducing administrative workload and complexity. SUCCESS STORY #1 To improve the quality of public services through the use of innovative technical solutions, such a project was implemented in one of the voivodeships in Poland. Specifically, it provides access to emergency services and medical transport in restricted public areas of the region. As the above, the solution is based on communication between a smartphone or tablet and barriers, gates, and intercoms equipped with FMB920 trackers, which open them at the request of an authorised user. Thanks to the versatility of this approach, a dedicated mobile app integrated with existing security and access control systems from different manufacturers. It is fault-tolerant and meets the highest standards of protection against unwanted access, with a range of security features to prevent deliberate or accidental misuse. As a result of this, the app allows emergency responders to enter restricted areas without unnecessary stops by remotely opening barriers. It also has a significant advantage over existing ambulance sound systems and sirens, eliminating the inconvenience of noise around facilities where the peace and comfort of patients and residents are essential. SUCCESS STORY #2 Access control at one of Poland's airports has been enhanced with the blockchain technology and the system described above. The chosen blockchain platform serves as a communication bus for various airport systems, streamlining communication and access management. Initially implemented in the non-commercial employee area, the system aims to test the feasibility of a unified communication platform, explore its potential, and increase the level of security for the airport's management system. The airport prioritised the lowest possible barrier to entry to ensure ease of use for staff and system operators. Equipment was provided and installed at strategic points, user manuals were distributed and full implementation support was provided. As a result, the airport's goals were achieved - the effectiveness of the security system was improved, and supplier independence was also attained through the accessibility of the blockchain, allowing the airport to freely choose suppliers of access control systems and integrate various applications upon demand. WHY TELTONIKA? At Teltonika Telematics, we are helping to redefine the management of public spaces by harnessing the power of our GPS tracking devices and blockchain technology to create a smart, safe, and efficient urban ecosystem. The solution can be adapted to meet the specific challenges of city authorities, companies, and organisations and offers a sophisticated approach to access control and fleet management in public spaces. - Private/Business Driving Mode Functionality
Teltonika GPS tracker Private/Business Driving Mode functionality, usage scenarios and its benefits for corporate fleets PRIVATE/BUSINESS DRIVING MODE FUNCTIONALITY INTRO Allowing employees to drive company vehicles for personal reasons is a widespread practice. It is an attractive perk for employees, assisting business owners to hire skilled people and boost its competitiveness. But how to effectively monitor and manage this process, generate reports and avoid a car misuse trouble-free way? To assist businesses with this, Teltonika Telematics has developed a special GPS tracker mode. CHALLENGE It is a quite common practice in many small and medium-sized businesses in most of the countries around the world to allow owners and employees to drive company cars, trucks, or vans for personal reasons. For instance, to commute between home and work regularly; allow trips unrelated to organisation purpose, work, or trade (e.g. hospital, shopping centre, funeral); use a vehicle on a holiday or over weekends; even allow occasionally to be used by someone other than an employee of a company and so on. Use of a company car is often perceived as an attractive perk for employees, negating the need to own their vehicle and saving them a substantial amount of money or avoiding a need to take a car loan. Companies that want to attract, hire and keep the best and brightest staff members may offer incentives such as a company vehicle as an enticing part of a compensation package. And there is even more to consider - when an employee uses a company vehicle for personal use, it becomes taxable in some countries and must be reported to authorities. If so, it must be some convenient and reliable report generating option avoiding excessive paperwork, errors, controversies and accepted by the appropriate authorities. Also, how to effectively monitor and manage a ‘fair use’ personal use of company vehicles? How much is too much and how do you, as a corporate vehicle owner, know that for sure? To sum up, there are a few uses cases to this: Track employees during work hours only by enabling some sort of Private Mode after work/office hours. Track in specific zones and exclude employees tracking when entering specified geo zones (e.g. home/residential areas). Keeping all above in mind, here is a question - how the business owners and fleet managers allowing employees to drive company cars can monitor, supervise and, if necessary, restrain this process hassle-free way? To assist companies and organisations with this, here at Teltonika Telematics we have developed a pretty smart solution to this in its GPS trackers firmware - Private/Business Driving Mode . SOLUTION So, what is a tracker Private/Business Mode, the best practices for using it and how to get the maximum benefits for your business? Private/Business Driving Mode is Teltonika GPS tracker helpful feature which makes it possible for drivers and/or fleet management to temporarily mask vehicle GPS data tracking, so to say – to disable GPS coordinates with a click of the button. Corporate fleets can use this functionality to handily accommodate situations where employees (drivers) require intervals of privacy while using a company car. Moreover, self-employed people can easily convert their own car into a business asset. How it works - when the Business Driving Mode is activated, Teltonika GPS tracker electronic logbook keeps tracking and recording all pre-configured vehicle events automatically and sending data to a dedicated server. If the Private Driving Mode has been activated, odometer calculations (optional) and some other events will NOT be registered (aka GPS Data Masking). Also, this mode allows European businesses to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulations . FMP100 device perfectly suits the Private Driving Mode. It is the one and only our device that has a button on it, so a driver can activate the feature in a few seconds. Additionally, the mode can be turned on in a few alternative ways (aka Triggers), such as GPRS/SMS command, Bluetooth® 4.X LE command, or Teltonika BTAPP mobile application. Upon a tracker set-up, there are three GPS Data Masking options: Normal - no changes are made to GPS data and GSM elements. All of them will be tracked according to a device configuration. Data sent as Zero - sends GPS data as ‘0’ to a server with the following I/O elements: latitude, longitude, altitude, number of satellites, ‘GSM Cell ID’ and ‘GSM Area Code’ parameters. If this option is chosen and Private Driving Mode is activated, a vehicle tracking mark will disappear off the map in automatic vehicle location software until the mode is switched back to Business Driving Mode. Last good known position - last known tracker GPS position right before entering Private Mode will be sent in each record to a server, ‘GSM Cell ID’ and ‘GSM Area Code’, I/O elements will be sent as ‘0’ to a server. In this case, a vehicle tracking mark will remain stationary, showing the last known location on the map until the mode is switched back to Business Driving Mode. To serve company needs even better, this mode has a handy Weekly Schedule Settings functionality allowing to pre-set and automate Private/Business status activation/deactivation routine and activate LED, which is also integrated into FMP100, to indicate a driver that the mode is up and running and some other handy settings. Please note, if pre-configured accordingly, Private Driving Mode can be automatically deactivated in any Teltonika GPS device in the event of Towing, Unplug, or Crash detection and if Autogeofence conditions are met and this scenario is triggered. This way, a vehicle owner will benefit from all tracker safety features and it will remain a less appealing target to auto thieves whatever the mode driver chooses. Coming back to Private/Business vehicle usage reporting and/or detailed stats summary, any required reports specific to a particular country's tax laws and regulations or corporate fleet management needs should be implemented in a company's own developed software or Telematic Service Providers platforms based Teltonika GPS tracker events and I/O elements data. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Hassle-free vehicle private/business usage monitoring and handling for any size fleets - easy to use and accurate Private/Business Driving Mode with Weekly Schedule Settings automation and multiple mode activation options to meet a company needs. Unscheduled vehicle maintenance is one of the biggest challenges for fleet owners. Breakdowns disrupt delivery schedules, resulting in dissatisfied customers and financial losses. The research highlights that unplanned downtime can cost fleet operators hundreds of dollars per vehicle per day, emphasising the need for proactive solutions. Fuel accounts for almost 30% of the total cost of running a fleet. Its poor management can lead to unnecessary costs and impact the fleet's carbon footprint. The reports highlight that operational costs in the logistics sector have risen by 20% over the past five years, driven by fluctuating fuel costs and maintenance demands. - Trailer Security Solution With FMB965 Tracker
Accurate trailer tracking, monitoring and protection with vehicle GPS tracker Teltonika FMB965 and its unique feature set TRAILER SECURITY SOLUTION WITH FMB965 TRACKER INTRO The rapid growth of logistics, e-commerce, and retail sectors increase the demand for trailer rental and leasing. According to the ReportLinker report , trailer rental and leasing become more attractive ways of cargo transportation and are expected to exceed USD 85 billion in 2027. The growing demand for trailer tracking and leasing requires higher transparency and more accurate monitoring and Teltonika Telematics can help with that. CHALLENGE The demand for trailer rentals and leasing was affected by local and national regulations regarding emission control, changes in vehicle safety regulations, and automotive industry disruptions. Many businesses prefer long-term leasing and rent rather than owning their own fleet. It gives more flexibility in vehicle maintenance and ensures that the transport items in use will meet all requirements provided by the government and other institutions. However, while transport companies are successfully using trailer rental and leasing services, such providers are struggling with the issue of asset safety and accountability. Vehicle users are less likely to ensure the protection of the rented car or trailer, which increases the potential loss caused by thefts, breakdowns or misuse of the equipment. According to the 2021 Cargo Theft Report , there is a tendency to leave a trailer in the unsecured parking lot if the trailer is not owned by a driver, which makes vehicles much easier to steal. The Northbridge Insurance states that in most cases, not only the cargo but the trailer is also being stolen, which doubles the loss, including cargo and equipment. The risk is getting even higher when trailers are not in use and are left in the parking lots for a long time. SOLUTION An ordinary wired vehicle GPS tracker must be connected to an external power source to operate at full capacity and to ensure continuous data transmission to a server via the Internet. Meanwhile, Teltonika Telematics has developed a solution whereby the location of the vehicle can be monitored even if the power supply is disconnected. FMB965 solution combines multiple features to meet the challenge most effectively. While trailers regularly are left parked for a few days or weeks, FMB965 vehicle GPS tracker is capable of working for up to 30 days without an external power supply and sends the exact location of the parked trailer, when the tracker is in sleep mode. Firstly, FMB965 model has a 1,200 mAh internal battery, allowing the tracker to operate for long periods autonomously. Secondly, the unique ‘ Power Off Sleep Mode ’ helps to last the battery even longer, because it minimises the power consumption to less than 1 mA. These two features work together to bring significant benefits to businesses by reducing potential financial losses. How it works – to track a trailer, it must be fitted with FMB965 tracking device. Trailers are usually left outdoors, so water can affect not only the trailer but also the tracker. The robust and water-resistant IP67-rated casing ensures that harsh conditions, such as moisture, corrosion or dust, will not interfere. Vehicle tracking usually requires an external power supply. This way, the GPS tracker is powered and works as configured and intended. When the truck or lorry leaves the trailer in the parking space, the external power supply is disconnected and FMB965 model enters ‘Power Off Sleep Mode’, which minimises power consumption. Depending on the configuration settings, the Teltonika tracker wakes up every 4 hours and sends periodic data recordings with the trailer location. During this time, the trailer owner will know exactly where it is. If movement, ignition and/or external power is detected, the tracker will ‘wake up’ and notify the person in charge of a potential threat. Yet more, when the device wakes up, all relevant usage scenarios will be active. For instance, to secure the vehicle, the device can be configured to detect GSM signal jamming. If it happens, the vehicle or fleet owner will immediately receive a notification about the event. Furthermore, the digital output interface can be used to distract thieves with a buzzer helping to prevent the theft of a trailer. Going further, the Auto Geofence scenario also helps to protect the trailer from possible loss. It identifies the last known location coordinates after its movement has been stopped. This means that when the trailer is parked and remains stationary in the car parking lot, FMB965 tracker will identify that defined zone and no changes will be detected. If the trailer is moved out of the Geofence zone by someone, the owner of the trailer will instantly receive a notification of the location change. As mentioned above, this special scenario can operate even vehicle GPS tracker is in sleep mode, while the ‘Power Off Sleep Mode’’ is enabled. Also, the Teltonika device can be used for driver behaviour monitoring including routes, parking lots and use of equipment. In case a driver leaves a trailer on a roadside or free unguarded parking lot, the rental fee can be recalculated, because of a higher risk of theft and financial loss. Finally, to prevent cargo thefts, vehicle door status can be monitored with Teltonika EYE Sensors . As a result, fleet operators, managers, and drivers will be informed immediately when the doors are opened, which helps monitor the transit process and spot suspicious activity if cargo is not being unloaded or loaded where it should be. Please note that when FMB965 tracker is in ‘Ultra Deep Sleep Mode’, or ‘Power Off Sleep Mode’, the Bluetooth® LE connection is not available. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Reliable tracking in harsh conditions – the new IP67-rated casing protects the vehicle GPS tracker FMB965 from harmful weather conditions when a trailer is not in use and is parked outdoors. Improved trailer security – the combination of a high-capacity internal battery and a unique ‘Power Off Sleep Mode’ provides reliable monitoring and protection when the trailer is parked and the external power supply is disconnected. Additional protection with Auto Geofence scenario – vehicle GPS tracker detects when the trailer leaves the set zone and notifies the driver about the movement. Usage-based rental conditions to help monitor driver behaviour and protect equipment to ensure discipline and save company resources. WHY TELTONIKA? Teltonika Telematics developed a distinctive solution that brings benefits to fleet owners, managers, and drivers even if a trailer is not in use. The unique ‘Power Off Sleep Mode’ and high-capacity battery work together to ensure the safety of the vehicle and trailer by informing people in charge about changes in location and potential threats. The company works as a cohesive community where everyone is focused on the same goal. The approach to the customer here is based on long-term experience and innovations, which are essential for business development. The company’s growth is based on customer satisfaction and trust, which brings mutual success. LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! Facebook X (Twitter) LinkedIn Copy link GOT A QUESTION?
