WEBINAR TAKEAWAYS: OEM TELEMATICS IN E-MOBILITY INDUSTRY

Electric mobility is a huge topic around the globe. Industry analytics like McKinsey and Company predict the market growth up to $360 billion by 2030. There are multiple reasons behind this, starting from government regulations limiting CO2 emissions and up to consumers’ demand for sustainable and smart transport.

What is more, a demand for tailored telematics is on the rise. According to the study, micromobility owners are more technology-savvy and interested in trying the latest innovations than other drivers. This makes native telematics a perfect companion for e-transport, helping original manufacturers to stand out against the competition, increase customer retention and significantly improve the drivers’ experience with the brand. However, how to approach the implementation of native telematics in e-mobility? To help with this challenging task, Teltonika hosted a webinar OEM TELEMATICS IN E-MOBILITY INDUSTRY.
AFTERMARKET TELEMATICS & OEM MANUFACTURERS
The topic of the competition between native and after-market telematics is periodically raised in the industry due to very good reasons. OEM’s have a very good position to offer added value services to their existing customer base by providing access to vehicle data. However, branching into telematics is not an easy task as the solution should fit OEM’s operations. Factory-friendly installation, global applicability, customisation options, and remote device management – there are many factors to consider.
That is why the perfect way forward could be cooperation with experienced telematics service providers that can analyse the requirements, foresee challenges and offer a solution that fits the best. Not to mention the continuous support and the potential changes in already implemented telematics based on e-transport evolution and customer feedback. Having a reliable partner ready to support you along the way and adapt when the business requirements change can be one of the ways to assure a good user experience.
WHY FTC305 & FTM305 TRACKERS ARE THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR OEM’S?
We designed the trackers to be compact and take up as little space as possible to simplify installation. Also, taking into account that companies may have different expectations for telematics devices, we offer two options: a tracker with an IP67-rated casing and a version without a casing to significantly reduce the device's size.
Moreover, FTx305 is one of the few products in our portfolio that has Manual CAN functionality to read raw data and program a custom CAN parameter database using TCT. This approach helps avoid sharing e-transport know-how, such as the data communication protocol, with third parties. Also, TCT is integrated with our device management solution, FOTA WEB, making remote configuration updates more convenient than ever before.
Finally, FTC305 and FTM305 models support various scenarios related to driver behaviour, including eco driving, speeding, crash and fall detection, as well as unplug and jamming detection that help identify malicious activity.
Q&A
At the end of each of our webinars, we host a live Q&A session. Below, you will find some of the participants’ questions along with answers from our technical experts, Ignas Adomaitis and Irmantas Kanapickas.
Is dead reckoning functionality available on FTC305 & FTM305 devices?
FTC305 & FTM305 devices do not have dead reckoning functionality. However, we are considering adding the new products with this functionality to the e-mobility product category. Stay tuned for further updates!
What e-mobility parameters can be read with FTC305 and FTM305?
The parameters depend on your implementation of the devices with Manual CAN functionality. Based on the data communication protocol of the e-transport, you can specify what exact raw CAN parameters should be collected and sent to the fleet management platform. The list of parameters can include battery level, temperature, or state of health.
Do FTC305 and FTM305 devices support specific e-bike brands, like Bosch or Shimano?
At the moment FTC305 and FTM305 devices do not have a list of supported brands. You can implement the integration yourself using manual CAN functionality in case you have a data communication protocol for a specific e-transport. Keep in mind, we are working on supporting the most popular e-mobility brands.
Do FTC305 and FTM305 devices support the SAE J1939 protocol used in special machinery?
We are working on SAE J1939 protocol implementation, and it will be available with further firmware releases. In case you would like to have early access to the integration, please create a Helpdesk request to our technical support team.
FTC305 and FTM305 devices do not allow the use of 1-Wire for driver identification with iButton and a digital input for ignition detection at the same time. How can both driver identification and ignition detection be enabled?
FTC305 and FTM305 allow the detection of the ignition based on power voltage, accelerometer or Manual CAN parameters. You can find the configuration details in the documentation.
Do FTC305 and FTM305 devices support TLS \ DTLS encryption?
TLS/DTLS support is already available for testing with the firmware 3.7.0-rc.22. You can request it by creating a Helpdesk request to our technical support.
