  • Fleet Maintenance Schedules For Delivery

Easy-to-install Teltonika OBD tracker FMB001 to maintain delivery service vehicle fleet and avoid unnecessary costs FLEET MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES (DELIVERY) INTRO Delivery is a business where efficiency is everything. Customers expect their goods to be delivered on time, and meeting these expectations is a must if the company is to make a solid profit. Anything that causes delays should be minimised or eliminated. Facilitated by GPS devices, timely vehicle maintenance can significantly reduce the number of irregularities and help the business grow. CHALLENGE Keeping the company's fleet in good condition is vital. Losing several vehicles, or even just one, due to unexpected breakdowns can result in considerable losses and complications in scheduled operations. In addition, using paper to keep track of the fleet's scheduled maintenance is cumbersome and time-consuming. There is also the possibility of making mistakes, which can lead to overdue maintenance, business disruption and unforeseen costs. In the worst-case scenario, driver safety can also be put at risk. SOLUTION To avoid maintenance-related headaches and make life easier for customers, integrators offer a solution to the above problems. The process of fleet maintenance can be automated using Teltonika GPS tracking devices. The larger the fleet, the more attractive this solution is to the owner. How it works - tracking maintenance schedules becomes easy by setting reminders when vehicles need service based on mileage or other parameters. Information about unexpected faults and problems is also sent to the owner so that they can be resolved quickly. The best choice for implementing this solution is an easy-to-install Teltonika OBD tracker . Data needed for implementation include: Odometer/driven distance. Based on the device you select, the data of driven distance will be calculated either using a virtual odometer solution or getting actual odometer data from the onboard computer. DTC (diagnostic trouble codes). You will receive information about faults or actual fault codes depending on the possibilities of the onboard computer. In addition to data used for monitoring fleet management schedules, OBD trackers can provide other useful information, such as fuel level, RPM, throttle position, coolant temperature, engine load, etc. The functionalities of Bluetooth® beacons and sensors are also very relevant in delivery service. Beacons help to ensure the safety of the shipped goods, while sensors measure temperature and humidity making sure the goods are delivered in proper condition. • Anti-theft Solution For Delivery Services

Proven anti-theft solution for delivery service, car sharing and car leasing companies using Teltonika GPS devices ANTI-THEFT SOLUTION FOR DELIVERY SERVICES INTRO A global pandemic has changed consumer behaviour causing substantial online sales and door-to-door delivery services boost worldwide. Unfortunately, this shift has led to a rapid rise in package and delivery van thefts too spreading like wildfire country by country. To resolve this issue, here at Teltonika we have developed a highly effective solution dedicated to delivery service companies and relevant fleets. CHALLENGE Did you know, only in the USA alone 1.7 million packages are stolen or go missing from doorsteps, costing sellers around $9 billion every single year? Because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, lockdown and stay-at-home procedures in most of the countries, millions of consumers are unable or unwilling to go into grocery and household goods stores. Thus, people are turning to an alternative option - online sales and door-to-door delivery services. For instance, the retail giant Walmart saw a 74% growth in online sales this year, Target Corporation - a whopping 141% jump and Amazon has hired an additional 175,000 people to cope with a growing workload. Unfortunately, this boost has led to a rapid rise in package and delivery van thefts. For instance, about 20% of households in the US have reported a delivery package stolen throughout the March to May 2020 period, which is an all-time high number. Sadly, other countries keep following the same disturbing trend. Furthermore, a good portion of delivery service drivers have some bad habits or practices and every so often (or even systematically) make mistakes too - forget to lock vehicle doors, leave a key in an ignition switch or inside on a dashboard or seat while taking the parcel to a customer door. No doubt, these trends are noticed by offenders and thieves as ‘can’t be missed’ opportunities with a high reward with little effort and risk. More online orders, more deliveries, more drivers, more blunders and more stolen parcels, to say at least. And a vicious cycle goes on and on... Keeping all the above in mind, Teltonika team has come up with a sophisticated anti-theft solution to help delivery and courier businesses resolve this significant issue for good. SOLUTION CAN-CONTROL adapter , in combination with Teltonika GPS tracker, supported and compatible with it, grants remote control of vehicle door lock and windows-closing via GPRS or SMS text command. Also, the adapter reads essential CAN bus parameters such as fuel level, odometer, fuel consumption or engine RPM, engine temperature, oil pressure, lights, and handbrake status, etc. Thus, corporate fleet managers can swiftly identify areas of improvement to minimise vehicle maintenance overheads and optimise operating costs. How it works - for the sake of example, we choose Teltonika FMB130 model made with the latest generation of electronic components. Here, CAN-CONTROL is used to receive data about the states of various systems within a vehicle and send them to a server as state security flags. This adapter connects directly to a vehicle CAN line, so there is no need to use additional relays or expensive car security systems for the remote lock control. Impressively, it supports over 1,300 vehicles, and the list is growing. There are quite a few scenarios a driver can make a mistake, for instance, he/she may forget to lock the vehicle's front, sliding or back doors or a door/s can be left unlocked, a key is still in an ignition switch, the engine is on and so on. Thanks to state security flag data, it is known that vehicle ignition is on or off and the key is in or out. An integrated accelerometer in FMB130 tracker indicates that the vehicle is not moving, and doors have opened and closed but remain unlocked. Based on specifically pre-configured settings, unlocked doors will be locked automatically in 15 seconds by sending a dedicated command remotely. Even though the driver made a mistake, all packages are secured and remain safe. Motor/goods theft has been prevented . When a driver comes back to a van, but the car keys have been left and locked inside, there are two ways to unlock the door/s and get back access to the vehicle: A driver will have to call a company's local monitoring centre, so they can remotely unlock a van via the server by sending a dedicated command. Usually, this procedure works as a disciplinary measure not to leave keys inside a vehicle. Also, a driver could be penalised if the mistake is being made repeatedly or if the driver is being ignorant. Alternatively, there is an option to unlock vehicle doors via a mobile application, developed by your team or 3rd party developers. Events in the app can be registered too and a driver could be penalised for inappropriate actions. To sum up, the usage of rich CAN bus data readouts powered by CAN-CONTROL adapter is a perfect solution and the right choice not only for courier and delivery service businesses but also for car sharing, car dealerships and car rental/leasing providers, etc. Teltonika trackers Immobiliser feature makes a delivery van even less appealing target for motor thieves. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Prevents motor thefts and package losses for good - proven to bring immense value to the anti-theft solution utilising CAN-CONTROL adapter readouts and top-quality Teltonika tracker features is the right choice for courier and delivery service businesses, as well as for car sharing, car dealerships and car rental or leasing companies. Boosts drivers’ discipline and encourages desirable driving habits - constant fleet personnel routine tracking and monitoring with an appropriate motivation system will optimise workflow and increase productivity. Facilitates fleet overall cost efficiency by minimising vehicle maintenance overheads, traffic tickets, insurance tariffs, driver blunders and cutting fleet ongoing expenses. • Boosting Retail Marketing With EYE Beacons

Encourage in-store purchases with personalized notifications using wireless Teltonika EYE Beacon accessory BOOSTING RETAIL MARKETING WITH EYE BEACONS INTRO The physical retail stores market is tremendous, generating around 20 trillion dollars of yearly sales worldwide. Many clients visit stores every day, however, only 20% to 40% of them decide to buy . Even a small increase in this percentage would significantly increase store revenues, and retail marketing combined with some Teltonika products can help achieve this. CHALLENGE The relatively low percentage of customers who buy can be explained by the lack of a call to action at the right moment. There is a lack of personalised discounts or offers for shoppers, which could be a good incentive option for both the buyer and the seller, but it is usually difficult to identify the right timing, or there is simply no person or technology available to offer this. Also, there is a lack of advertising for a well-specified target group in retail stores, which would help to increase sales by far. For example, traditional retail advertising such as billboards is ineffective since they are expensive and shown to many viewers who are not the target audience. However, it is difficult to do targeted advertising in physical stores: if a potential customer was interested in a product but did not make a purchase decision, this valuable information will not be captured. It is unlikely that the person will return to pick up the item. Combining this information about customer presence with digital advertising could be the perfect combination to drive the customer's decision to buy right now, right here. Furthermore, present-day customers prefer personalised offers for the products they are interested in. 56% of consumers think that brands should show a deeper understanding of their needs. The challenge is to provide retail brands with data about the presence of their potential customers in specific sections of physical stores. So that then they could offer the customers personalised promotions according to their needs. That said, retailers need an inexpensive way to effectively target potential retail customers based on their physical presence in the store, and Teltonika Telematics can help achieve this. SOLUTION It is possible to learn the valuable data of customers’ in-store presence for a personalised experience. To make it happen, Teltonika EYE Beacons , combined with a third-party mobile app, can be used in the place of interest. They are small, easy-to-mount Bluetooth® Low Energy devices with a battery life of up to 10 years, which helps to leverage the solution efficiently and scale it up. How it works – EYE Beacons should be installed in areas of interest, for example, in different sections of a retail shop. They broadcast their ID signal as an iBeacon or Eddystone protocol. This signal is read by customers' smartphones when initiated by a third-party app. This captures relevant data about a specific customer at a specific location and can then send assigned notifications, for example about sales promotions - deal of the day, week, etc. This would allow for more targeted advertising campaigns, let’s say, promoting special offers and personalized discounts to customers who are already interested in the products. It could even help to invite nearby customers to take advantage of limited offers - for example, if a person walks past a shop, a message could be triggered to invite them to come into the shop and get discounts. In addition, special promotional messages could be used to greet customers when they arrive at the outlet, thus enriching the shopping experience and increasing sales. Personalised messages make customers feel more aware of the brand and, therefore, more loyal, and willing to buy. By using Teltonika EYE Beacons, the shop would be able to meet the real needs of the customers, based on their interest in a certain section of it. Finally, the solution would enable the collection of valuable customer data to help make data-driven business decisions. It would show how long customers spend in each section of the retail shop or how long it takes to make a purchase decision. For example, when the beacon is identified, the app generates a special QR coupon for a customer. As the coupon is scanned, this time can be considered purchase decision time. Additional loyalty campaigns could be carried out, such as giving customers the chance to win something when they physically visit a store. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Encourage in-store purchase decisions by providing potential customers with personalised offers, special discounts, and loyalty programs. Reach your target market - run presence-based beacon messages to drive more sales and increase revenue. Engage with potential customers – help those already interested in the product to take part in their buying journey. Offer targeted discounts – give the best deals to those who are interested but may miss the final push to buy more. Inexpensive and easy-to-install accessories – Teltonika EYE Beacons are compact, lightweight, wireless, easy to install and can be kept in a store for a long time without having to replace them. New business opportunities - telematics service providers can expand their projects in a new market niche - retail. WHY TELTONIKA? To achieve sales targets and implement the solution, successful retail marketing campaigns require reliable and affordable Bluetooth® beacons. Teltonika Telematics delivers an easy-to-setup and universal solution suitable for virtually everyone’s needs. • Managing Utility Fleet Operations In The Winter Season

Transform winter operations for optimum efficiency and safety with Teltonika FMx6 series vehicle GPS trackers MANAGING UTILITY FLEET OPERATIONS IN THE WINTER SEASON INTRO The winter season can last up to 3-6 months with heavy snowfall in regions, such as North America, Northern Europe and Northern Asia. Municipalities and utility companies in the snow-prone areas have to make a great effort in advance to ensure that operations run smoothly and services are efficient. To help with this, Teltonika Telematics offers a solution. CHALLENGE As the winter season approaches, many cities around the world are faced with transport challenges. Roads are the 'veins' of a country’s economy; however, snow and ice can make the roads impassable. Hampering the movement on the roads has a direct negative impact on the economy. This can delay response to outages and slow down the logistics, additionally making it more difficult to repair and maintain transport infrastructure. Unclean roads and slippery pavements can lead to injuries and other unwanted scenarios for both drivers and pedestrians. Hence, there is a need to track which roads have been cleared and the routes taken by winter service vehicles. At the same time, the challenge is to accurately monitor and record the amount of salt and sand spread during operations. This documentation is essential for transparency and accountability in demonstrating the extent of operations. Finally, the challenge extends to organising optimal maintenance schedules for both vehicles and equipment. Effective predictive maintenance practices are essential to prevent breakdowns during service operations. Addressing all this requires the implementation of a comprehensive tracking device that seamlessly captures, retrieves, and transmits critical operational data. SOLUTION To fully meet the complex challenges faced by municipalities and utility companies in winter, we recommend the use of a multi-functional GPS tracker from the PROFESSIONAL category – FMC650 . This handy model is like a Swiss knife, capable of supporting various 3rd party devices and providing the solution to many seasonal challenges. How it works – FMC650 tracker stands out with its specially dedicated GNSS module, to gather GNSS data and get precise positioning. This allows service providers to get instant access to the exact location of their machinery and equipment. At the same time, the tracker records the exact routes taken during each operation, ensuring the same routes won’t be taken twice or some roads won’t be mistakenly neglected. Thus, drivers are provided with the most accurate driving routes for the assigned areas, resulting in labour and fuel cost savings. In practice, the snow cleaning shifts might take longer than usual ones of other seasons. The advanced VDO counter functionality helps companies comply with local regulations related to overtime and specific labour laws. This functionality provides easier tracking of the worker’s driving time, working state, ID card/ number, continuous drive time, etc. For instance, 'Remaining Driving Time On Current Shift' - specifies the minutes of allowable driving time left on the worker's current shift, helping companies track employee performance and adherence to labour regulations and work schedules. It ensures effective workforce management and fair overtime labour payment. A key aspect of municipal services is the accurate recording of spreading materials, like salt brine, sand, de-icer, and gravel. Teltonika FMC650 vehicle tracker could be connected to the third-party sensors and accessories via RS232 port to track the transmission of salt-spreading information. The tracker transmits the materials-related information, for instance, the spread amount and spreading width directly to the server for further analysis and service reports. This way, fleet managers can possess accurate data and trustworthy information about materials utilisation. With it, it's possible to avoid extra materials usage and increase efficiency. Even more, the FMS Tell Tale Status functionality provides valuable insights into vehicle and equipment health. It enables contractors to arrange optimal maintenance schedules, minimising the risk of breakdowns during operations and reducing overall downtime. It also helps fleet managers stay aware of potential service disruptions and allocate fleet resources accordingly. In summary, Teltonika FMC650 model is the cornerstone of efficient, transparent, and compliant winter maintenance management. By integrating this professional GPS tracker, utility companies can navigate the complexities of their tasks with precision and reliability, meeting operational challenges and regulatory requirements. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Precise positioning and route optimisation – quick access to vehicle location with real-time GPS tracking to optimise routes and streamline company operations. Detailed spreading documentation and reporting – accurate records of salt and sand spreading data to generate service reports with custom software. Efficient workforce management – automatic calculation and documentation of driver working hours to improve overall workforce management and ensure fair overtime payment. Proactive maintenance – valuable insights into vehicle and equipment health to plan predictive maintenance and minimise failure risk during seasonal operations. • Improving Device Configuration Process With TCT Web Version

The new TCT web version allows users to reduce operational costs and increase efficiency while managing FT tracker configuration files IMPROVING DEVICE CONFIGURATION PROCESS WITH TCT WEB VERSION INTRO According to a report by Fortune Business Insights , the vehicle telematics market was valued at $79.17 billion in 2023 and is estimated to reach $170.35 billion by 2032. With over 25 years of experience in the telematics business, we know that successful clients tend to cover a few industries. They are addressing multiple challenges that are increasing the need to mitigate risk, improve operational efficiency, and overall productivity. CHALLENGE With the growing demand for vehicle trackers in the IoT industry, companies are faced with increasing time and costs associated with configuring and updating these devices. As businesses expand, the need to configure more devices requires the hiring of additional technical and support staff to manage these tasks. Having multiple platforms for device management, while necessary, is not the best choice. Staff often spend a lot of time navigating between these different systems, leading to inefficiencies and wasted resources. Fleet management service providers may have many projects and companies to manage at the same time, making it difficult to keep track of all the configuration files. Especially when they are not all the same and have specific configurations for a particular customer. Files can no longer be managed completely manually as the risk of sending the wrong configuration settings to customers' GPS trackers is pretty high. Even more, when training staff, it is usually not easy to pass on knowledge of the tracking device configuration. Every new employee in the company needs to fully understand how to use the file configuration system. Training takes time and requires multiple resources. Finally, each company has its own policies and procedures. They also have different hardware and software that employees use to perform their daily tasks. For companies with different operating systems (MS Windows, Linux, or MAC OS), it is complicated to manage the same software that is not fully adapted to work on all operating systems. Especially when the solution is delivered in a desktop version that is not available for all systems. This makes it difficult to manage resources and takes time to adapt to new tools, but Teltonika has a practical solution to offer. SOLUTION To optimise fleet device management, Teltonika offers its customers comprehensive platforms designed to facilitate both the initial setup and ongoing maintenance of GPS trackers . To minimise the need for individual configuration of devices, Teltonika offers TCT (short for Telematics Configuration Tool) platform, which allows our clients to create configuration files that can be remotely uploaded to multiple FT trackers , saving significant time and effort. TCT is available in two versions - an MS Windows application and a web-based solution. We offer our customers FOTA WEB platform for the remote update and maintenance of Teltonika GPS devices. This software solution allows customers to effortlessly update device firmware and configuration settings, ensuring that all trackers remain up-to-date and fully operational. Beyond updates, FOTA WEB also supports efficient management of companies and end users, as well as provides robust debugging tools to quickly resolve issues that may arise. The integration between FOTA WEB and TCT web version helps to increase the efficiency of the service provider's operations. Easily accessible through FOTA WEB on any operating system, TCT web version allows you to create a configuration from scratch or edit existing ones. Let's take FTC921 tracker as an example to show an operating principle. How it works - when Teltonika customer receives FTC921, it is already registered in FOTA WEB account. The first step is to log into FOTA WEB account and click TCT icon. If the user chooses to create a configuration, TCT will automatically open in a separate web window. The customer is then presented with a list of FT trackers to choose from and must select FTC921 model to configure it. All required device configurations can be easily created on the web platform and saved to FOTA WEB for further sending over the air to these devices. This streamlined process eliminates the need to navigate through multiple platforms, saving valuable employee time and effort. If a configuration update is required, TCT web version allows existing configurations available in FOTA WEB to be edited and modified parameters to be saved as separate files, reducing the amount of traffic required for further file transfer to the FT platform devices. Even if the original vehicle tracker configuration is not available, FOTA WEB can request it from the device, edit it in TCT web version, and send the changes back. The ability to save the configuration file directly to FOTA WEB account not only reduces the processing time but also eliminates the need to store the files elsewhere and minimises human error by sending incorrect configuration files to devices. TCT solution itself is not only easy to navigate but also has a setup guide that walks you through the most important settings and gives the user tooltips explaining what certain parameters are for. This feature allows the company to reduce training time and ensures that the employee can find answers to questions about the system. In addition, the current availability of TCT on the web means that the solution can be used on different operating systems, ensuring that customers do not have to change their internal processes and policies regarding the use of specific operating systems. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Reduced operational costs - the solution has a pre-integrated setup guide that explains key settings and helps to navigate the tool. This is useful for first-time users. As TCT web version has tooltips and a user-friendly interface, these features eliminate the need for additional training for new staff. Minimising human errors - thanks to the ability to save configuration files to FOTA WEB account, this TCT solution helps to reduce the possibility of human error when sending incorrect configuration files to different Teltonika FT devices. Increased flexibility - by eliminating the need to use a specific operating system, the new solution is designed to run on any type of system and the device of your choice – PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection. Maximum efficiency - for effective file management, TCT web version allows our customers to save created or edited configuration files directly to FOTA WEB without the need for additional steps to download and upload them. Considerable time savings - the new solution reduces the need to navigate between different desktop and software applications to configure and update files. TCT web version can be accessed via FOTA WEB account with a single click. WHY TELTONIKA? TCT web version and FOTA WEB together provide an all-in-one solution for tracking device configuration, editing existing configuration, updates and maintenance. With this innovative platform, customers can manage their GPS trackers and projects more efficiently, ensuring that it is always up-to-date and functioning optimally. By integrating these essential tasks into a single, easy-to-use interface, Teltonika telematics unit continues to help its customers maximise operational productivity and achieve their business goals. • GPS Trackers For Waste Transport Management

Teltonika PROFESSIONAL GPS trackers are the most suitable devices for heavy-duty vehicles tracking in the most demanding use cases WASTE TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT INTRO Waste management is one of the most important issues of this decade, as it is related to waste recycling and environmental protection. Waste management involves the use of specialised equipment, so a dedicated solution is required to prevent misuse and ensure optimal and safe use. Teltonika GPS devices can help to achieve these goals. CHALLENGE Many countries around the world lack the capacity to provide consistent waste collection services. For example, around 35% of households in South Africa rely on informal or communal dumpsites. One of fleet managers' most important tasks is keeping their equipment in good technical condition, as any breakdown can lead to significant losses and complications. Irresponsible driving with the forceps down (which is prohibited) or delayed technical maintenance of trucks can disrupt daily business operations and result in unforeseen extra costs. Delayed waste collection or, in the worst case, no service at all, can also lead to many complaints and partnership problems with existing contractors. Thankfully, Teltonika Telematics has a forward-thinking solution to these challenges. SOLUTION Teltonika PROFESSIONAL category GPS trackers, such as FMC650 (LTE Cat 1 with fallback to 2G), or FMM650 (LTE Cat M1 with fallback to 2G) are the most accurate devices for tracking heavy vehicles in the most demanding and complex use cases. As an example, we have chosen FMC650 model to demonstrate the solution. How it works - these vehicle trackers support FMS data reading, allowing a wide range of on-board vehicle information to be read via the SAE J1939 protocol, including axle load data, RPM, engine hours and more. Models have a dedicated SAE J1708 port which is used to read vehicle fuel level and fuel consumption on certain types of vehicles. In addition, our professional trackers have the functionality to read and support any additional third-party sensors, for example, sensors connected via RS232 and RS485 interfaces, or even custom CAN sensors used for special and complex requirements. To better streamline fleet operations, FMS data can be used to monitor rear axle loading, i.e. the weight of waste loaded into the truck and the locations where service is most needed. Based on these figures, the fleet owner can optimise routes and schedule truck loading and/or servicing more effectively. Teltonika vehicle GPS trackers can receive data to prevent unsafe behaviour, such as driving with the forceps down, engine RPM, excessive speed, hard cornering or braking. As a result, fuel consumption and vehicle service costs are reduced and the chassis, brakes and other critical parts of the vehicle are kept in good condition for longer. Driver identification is the most accurate way of recording who has been driving a truck at certain times and monitoring driving behaviour during working hours. This can be achieved in two ways: Wireless driver identification using Teltonika EYE Beacon or driver identification via 1-Wire (RFID card or iButton ). This functionality can also be used in an 'immobilizer' scenario to only start the engine with ID authorisation. EYE Beacons and EYE Sensors not only help to identify drivers but also to track waste containers. When a vehicle equipped with FMC650 model is within Bluetooth® range, it acts as a gateway and communicates with beacons and/or sensors mounted on containers. With this combination, the vehicle tracker transmits data on events, such as the detection of containers, their movement, lifting and emptying, and sends it to a server for reporting. Read more about this here . What is more, Teltonika PROFESSIONAL GPS trackers can be connected to a tachograph - a device that records driving times. This smart feature allows managers to download DDD files and read live data. There are two connection options - the first is the usual connection from the end of the tachograph, and the second is an innovative connection from the front panel using the TACHO cable . All collected information is conveniently available in the WEB TACHO application. This feature can be used to avoid penalties from the authorities by monitoring the working and rest times of employees. In addition, PROFESSIONAL FMx6 series trackers can monitor whether the refuse truck's container is full or empty by using the axle load data received via J1939. • Advanced Corporate Car-Sharing Solution

Up-to-date solution for corporate car-sharing fleets with Teltonika GPS devices to improve its efficiency and drivers’ experience ADVANCED CORPORATE CAR-SHARING SOLUTION INTRO Corporate car-sharing combined with the latest technologies can benefit most businesses around the world. This is a globally expanding segment of the overall car-sharing market and its popularity grows tremendously. But it has its own challenges too. To assist companies to overcome the likely hurdles, Teltonika is ready to make a problem-solving contribution. CHALLENGE Since car-sharing was first introduced in Germany in the year 2008, it is rapidly growing in every continent from that day forward. According to the ‘Global Car Sharing Market 2020-2024’ report, this market is poised to grow by $7.65 billion during 2020-2024 progressing at a CAGR of 16 per cent during the forecast period. Even more, in the car-sharing segment, the number of users is expected to amount to 58.3 million users by 2025. No surprises though, because the benefits of car sharing for societies and cities worldwide are notable - less traffic and congestion, lower wear for roads, less air pollution and noise, more fleets of newer and safer vehicles, better acceptance of mobility as a service. And, of course, the new technologies are adopted faster including vehicle GPS tracking and virtual car keys , allowing one to unlock/lock it with a smartphone and dedicated mobile app. But there are a few key challenges to be considered - most corporate car parking facilities and pick up/drop off rental stations are built either in the basement of a building or beneath a street in a vast majority of cities pretty much in every country around the world. And that creates a major technical difficulty – some frequency radio signals often are not available indoors, in underground locations or on narrow streets as they diminish and scatter by surrounding structures - roofs, concrete floors and solid walls. That means the mobile phones and vehicle tracking devices mounted in ride-sharing cars have no 100% reliable connectivity there. Another likely concern - poor radio signal reception or none of it in remote areas and far away sites from any centre of the population (mountains, large parks, forests, single farms, deserts, etc.). So, is there any way to overcome these obstacles and offer a solution that works everywhere and all the time? Yes, it is... SOLUTION It has been achieved by making the car-sharing routine effortless, guided and user-friendly using modern technologies - sophisticated smartphone app, dedicated pool car management software, Bluetooth® , and Teltonika vehicle trackers . Let's demonstrate that with the keyless entry solution example. It is the most modern, secure, convenient and flexible approach swiftly replacing a conventional physical set of car keys. Not to mention, it removes the driver’s need to physically get them at a company branch or a dedicated desk or home. It reduces touch points, so the hygiene concerns too. A virtual car key (aka smart key, remote keyless system , keyless entry, smart entry system) is designed for electronically accessing a corresponding car-sharing vehicle. Because all Teltonika trackers support Bluetooth® Low Energy 4.X connectivity and have a dedicated communication protocol, we can successfully utilise it to communicate with the GPS devices mounted in cars, even if there are no other radio signals available. For the sake of an example, we use Teltonika FMM130 model. How does this work? Even if there is no cellular network reception or internet connectivity available in a particular spot, a microchip integrated into a smartphone can communicate via Bluetooth® radio waves with Teltonika tracker. Because of dedicated Bluetooth® protocols available for the clients, the GPS device recognises the mobile phone of the driver as securely as if it were a fingerprint. So, the phone works as a short-range radio transmitter within 5 to 20 meters of the car sending a coded signal via Bluetooth® to the receiver unit - FMM130 model which unlocks/locks doors through Teltonika CAN-CONTROL adaptor. Depending on mobile app functionality, the adaptor may allow a driver to control the vehicle's central lock, windows closure, switching on/off turn signals (aka blinkers), and boot release. You can read more about it in our CAR SHARING SOLUTION use case. The outcome? Even if there is no cellular connectivity, a driver can unlock/lock a car via Bluetooth® short-range radio signal. Even more, for corporate car-sharing accountability purposes, the credit system can be introduced (e.g., one unlock/lock action - 1 credit or suchlike). This advanced corporate car-sharing solution allows corporations to quickly put their existing fleet to more productive use and offers their employees the option to use the vehicles for and business needs, and privately. Depending on the company’s internal rules and a dedicated corporate car-sharing smartphone app functionality, the user-driver can search for an available vehicle to be driven, its exact location and the shortest route to it shown on a virtual map. It allows an individual to arrange a car of interest booking in advance for a specific time slot (aka vehicle booking calendar). That ensures noticeable financial savings to run and maintain the fleet, lower insurance fees, user-friendly experience and 100% drivers’ accountability, reduction in air pollution, carbon footprint, option to monetise personal vehicles and optimised matching of supply and demand. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Virtual car key functionality and access 24/7 anytime, anywhere - Bluetooth® short-range radio feature available in smartphones and Teltonika trackers Bluetooth® connectivity combo ensures the keyless entry availability around the clock all over the world. It reduces touch points, so the hygiene concerns. Improved driver’s experience - most people appreciate innovative, technologically advanced vehicles and their smart handling. This solution can make drivers’ experience behind the wheel safer, more convenient, and improve customer loyalty. CAN bus data readings - access to the many parameters related to ride-sharing cars status and timely usage analysis, i.e., the data that is essential for superior service delivery, competitiveness, and profitability. Smooth business operations and outstanding efficiency - 100% accountability of everything important to the car-sharing business - fleet vehicles and drivers’ actions are being timely tracked, monitored, and intervened if necessary. Optimised vehicle supply and demand. More benefits for employees - the average car-sharer may save a tangible sum a year through journey sharing. Corporate car-sharing can act as a pay-rise option that an employer may otherwise not be able to offer. SUCCESS STORY A Teltonika partner from Kazakhstan knows how to provide a corporate car sharing solution tailored for any kind of business. One of the most unusual cases where the company rented out own fleet is the Kazakhstan-based online beauty salon and booking service. This business acquired a fleet of 100 vehicles to rent out to employees and contractors traveling to client’s location to provide the service. • Automated Drivers’ Time Tracking And Identification

Automated drivers' time tracking using Teltonika GPS device functionality, accessories, 1-Wire technology or horometer AUTOMATED DRIVERS’ TIME TRACKING AND IDENTIFICATION INTRO Despite the fast-developing technologies and countless time management software solutions, the old-fashioned paper timesheets remain widely spread among drivers in many countries and businesses around the world, causing havoc and misunderstandings. To address this issue and create an opportunity for new market niches, Teltonika presents an automated time measuring using a GPS tracker and 1-Wire technology. CHALLENGE It is a common practice in most businesses around the world to keep employees accountable by recording, tracking, and analysing their working hours in one way or another. It could be hard copy timesheets, time logs, workforce management software solutions, clocking in/out machines, etc. When it comes to the corporate fleet drivers and workers or contractors operating vehicles in construction, forestry, agriculture, healthcare, retail, manufacturing and similar industries, hard copy timesheets are still being widely used today. But this old-fashioned ‘pen and paper’ method has a few major drawbacks - members of staff may complete the daily procedure with a few days delay or forget to do so completely; writing errors, poorly readable hand-writing, inaccuracies or even dishonesty are quite common; paper sheets can be lost or given to a payroll department too late for the certain time accounting period. Overall, this old-school approach is pretty time-consuming, inconvenient, and error-prone. To address this considerable challenge and assist corporate fleet management to run a business smoothly and efficiently, Teltonika introduces a practical present-day solution - an automated drivers’ working hours measuring system utilising GPS trackers mounted on vehicles and relevant accessories for this matter. SOLUTION The method is based on the 1-Wire communication bus system combining a contactless Radio-frequency identification (RFID) card, 1-Wire RFID reader , and Teltonika GPS tracker model compatible with 1-Wire communication. Each and single one RFID card has a unique factory-programmed 64-bit identification number which is used for a driver’s authentication and the exact electronic date and time stamping. Alternatively, a portable stainless steel iButton (aka Dallas Key) can be used instead of an RFID card, but the operating principle remains the same. As an example, for this use case, we choose RFID. Here to say, a 1-Wire RFID reader has to be mounted in a vehicle dashboard and connected to an FM device . How it works - every mobile employee-driver is given an RFID card. When starting a shift, a person has to authenticate itself by bringing an RFID card nearer to a 1-Wire RFID reader. If authentication is successful, the ‘start of shift’ event electronic date and time stamp will be generated and registered, an ignition starter engaged. Vehicle driving is authorised, and an employee is welcome to start his/her duties. Contrary, if the authentication fails, a car ignition starter will remain disconnected to prevent undesirable actions. When a shift has finished, and a driver is done for the day, the RFID card has to be touched to a 1-Wire RFID reader again to generate an ‘end of shift’ electronic stamp, and now vehicle ignition can be switched off for good. The same principle applies to lunch, tea or any other relevant breaks over working hours. It is worth mentioning, depending on company needs and project specifics, the driver’s authentication can be enabled/disabled in tracker configuration settings section ‘Features’. Also, various ‘iButton Read Notification’ scenarios can be set by activating one of the output controls DOUT 1, DOUT 2 and its duration (see the image below). For instance, the DOUT signal may be utilised to notify a driver that authentication is successful, and access has been granted. There is even more good news - an alternative time tracking method is available, quite straightforward and, of course, automated one using Teltonika tracker ‘Ignition ON Counter’ feature. This scenario counts the time spent with the switched-on ignition in the resolution of seconds (see the image below). Thus, by combining the feature with other vehicle tracking data (e.g. location, speed, geofencing), fleet managers and business owners can get pretty accurate working hours and activity reports to keep employees and drivers accounted. It is also known as a horometer or hour meter. The key benefit of this scenario - its simplicity and low-cost installation. No extra accessories are required, no holes to drill in the dashboard of every single vehicle, no lost ID cards. The feature is available in Teltonika basic firmware, starting from the version 03.27.XX and above. Thanks to the GPS tracker's extensive functionality, all required and relevant to a particular company data such as fleet vehicle locations, drivers’ working hours, driving times, mileage, speed, fuel consumption, and so on will be tracked, registered, and sent to the dedicated server automatically for further monitoring, analysis, wage calculation, and reporting purposes. Even more, if the same vehicle is being shared among a few drivers, such a solution allows tracking each of them individually, computing the relevant data, and measuring their productivity (or any other key performance indicator) over the set period. As a result, all mobile workforce remains 100% accountable hassle-free way in real-time with no paperwork, human errors, disputes, or delays surely improving business efficiency and profitability. Based on Teltonika FM device and its accessories comprehensive data gathering and dedicated 3rd party software, the method allows for calculation automatically and precisely of lunch break deductions, holidays, sickness absence, overtime, downtime, travel times to a project site, relevant expenses, allowances, evaluate employees discipline, etc. And, of course, authorised project and fleet managers can access this data via PC, tablet or smartphone which makes it even more practical and convenient. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Automated hassle-free drivers’ time tracking, monitoring, and management - accurate and easy-to-use personnel clocking method utilising 1-Wire technology, relevant vehicle GPS trackers, and accessories. Available anytime and anywhere via PC, tablet, and smartphone. 100% accountability, no paperwork or HR administration overheads - all-important to business time accounting data tracked, registered, and timely analysed in electronic format version. Drivers kept answerable, no more vehicle misuse, dishonestly, pricey errors or messy paper timesheets. Boosts mobile workforce discipline, encourages desirable vehicle usage habits and work ethics - constant fleet personnel routine tracking and monitoring in a combination with appropriate motivation system in place will optimise a workflow and its running cost for any size fleets and projects. Keeps companies compliant to local tax laws and regulations - if applicable, the required workflow reports can be timely generated and submitted to local authorities with a click of the button, thus avoiding tedious and time-consuming manual recordings, errors, penalties for inaccurate or delayed report filing. Extensive Teltonika GPS tracker functionality to serve company needs - flexible configuration, multiple usage scenarios and benefits, handy detections such as overspeeding, excessive idling, unplug, towing, crash help to compliment the time measurement use case and optimise fleet management, lower its running cost, and improve ROI. • Unintentional Lane Departure Prevention With ADAS

An unintentional lane departure prevention solution using Teltonika ADAS accessory and special FMx125 series GPS trackers ADAS SOLUTION FOR UNINTENTIONAL LANE DEPARTURE PREVENTION INTRO Professional drivers spend many hours on the roads. Although all countries have laws in place to prevent them from distracted driving and inappropriate behaviour behind the wheel, distractions remain a major cause of many accidents that result in serious injuries, casualties, and property loss. Keeping that in mind, we have developed a sophisticated video telematics warning solution actively helping corporate fleets with that. CHALLENGE According to IATSS research data , crashes due to lane departures are among the deadliest collision types. Only in the USA alone, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) could prevent 6% of crashes, 10% of injury crashes, 6% of fatal truck crashes, and 31% of fatal single-vehicle crashes. Even more, a system of this kind could prevent 297,000 road departure crashes every year. Overall, the situation in other countries is no better - globally, about 60% of road accident fatalities happen because of unintentional lane departure. The most common and predominant reason for that is distracted driving, which is described as any activity that diverts attention from driving a vehicle. Sadly, many of us, professionals or amateurs, are quality of that a lot. Consider this - according to a recently conducted national survey among American drivers aiming to understand their habits, 52.5% of respondents reported eating while driving, 23.6% texting, 11.7% taking photos, 6.5% applying makeup, and 3.4% drinking while driving. Even more, drivers are distracted by their phones for at least 10% of their driving time. The study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in December 2020 found that lane departure warning systems decrease single-vehicle, sideswipe and head-on crashes by 11% and injury crashes of the same types by 21% for passenger vehicles. In short, these systems have proven to be effective in reducing traffic accidents, loss of assets and cargo, injuries and fatalities. To address this major concern and assist fleet managers and drivers, Teltonika team has developed and manufactured an ADAS solution – a sophisticated video telematics system designed to avoid collisions and accidents on roads. SOLUTION In this use case, we take advantage of the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (aka ADAS ) – a comprehensive video telematics solution recently launched by Teltonika. It consists of a dedicated camera mounted on a vehicle windscreen and the PROFESSIONAL category GPS tracker FMC125 combo, both connected via serial port RS232 . Also, it includes a notifications display located on a dashboard. Based on leading-edge technologies, Teltonika ADAS has several integrated warning systems: lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance warning, pedestrian collision, forward proximity, front vehicle start alarm, safety distance alert, speed limit recognition. We have specifically designed its smart feature set to avoid traffic accidents and collisions in the most effective way possible. For that reason, when managed correctly, the system can significantly improve drivers’, cargo, and road users’ safety, and reduce injuries and fatalities. How it works - ADAS camera mounted on a windscreen constantly detects the alarming driving events in front of a vehicle. Teltonika FMC125 model tracks them and sends the relevant data to the dedicated server for timely monitoring, detailed analysis, and further reports. Most importantly, the system notifies a driver immediately via the display with a visual and sound alert of a likely upcoming danger or risky driving event. Although Teltonika ADAS is a complete everyday use solution and there are many causes of road accidents, we focus here on the main reasons causing most lane departure collisions. Let’s go through some of them more closely and see how ADAS can prevent them. The core principle of the LDW feature is this - it sends an instant visual and audio alert via a display to a driver when there is a vehicle lane deviation without signalling a left or right event detected, thereby helping to avoid an accident or a collision with an oncoming car. If the vehicle turn signal has been activated before leaving a lane, the event will be ignored, assuming the intentional driver’s action. Mobile phone distractions. Talking on the phone, browsing and/or texting while driving leads drivers to shift focus to something else and take their eyes off the road. No doubt, the increased risk of a traffic accident here is obvious. Fatigue and drowsiness. Drowsy driving is the dangerous combination of driving and sleepiness or fatigue. Here to add, drowsy driving is a major concern for many professional drivers worldwide. And here is why - it makes a person less able to pay attention to the road, slows down a reaction time if he/she has to brake or steer suddenly, affects the ability to make adequate and timely decisions behind the wheel. Thanks to ADAS LDW feature, the drifting from the lane event will be timely detected and tracked and a driver will be warned helping to avoid the costly outcome. Eating and/or drinking while driving. Sadly, it is a common habit too and might have pricey or tragic consequences for road users and drivers. Consider this - while eating, a driver’s reaction speed is lowered by 44% ; while drinking - by 22%. To make it worse, according to survey data conducted by ExxonMobil, over 70% of drivers admitted to eating behind the wheel, and over 83% - to drinking beverages while driving. As before, if an inadequate or risky driving event occurs because of the distractions mentioned above, ADAS will detect it, helping the driver regain focus and get the vehicle under control in time. To sum up, the brand new Teltonika ADAS solution assures the fullest accountability, detailed and undisputable evidence of the driver’s behaviour on the road. Rest assured, it helps properly and timely to deal with the most widespread unwanted habits and the risk-increasing factors mentioned above, saving people’s lives, company assets, resources, and reputation. Teltonika GPS tracker FMC125 firmware updates and configuration changes can be made remotely using the recently renewed FOTA WEB tool too. It is a powerful software solution that helps to manage GPS devices swiftly and efficiently. TOPOLOGY BENEFITS Instant and distinct LDW notifications - a driver will get a visual and sound alert via a dedicated display conveniently placed on a dashboard whenever an event of drifting from the own lane is detected. Fewer traffic disruptions, accidents and collision rates - LDW system continuously and faultlessly detects driver’s behaviour preventing the vehicle from drifting from the lane, thereby helping to avoid pricey errors on the road. It keeps drivers accountable, disciplined, and safe - constant vehicle events tracking and monitoring along with an appropriate motivation system will promote desirable driving habits and improve company's reputation. Hassle-free automated drivers’ and events tracking, monitoring, notifying, and management - an accurate and timely events data transfer to a dedicated server for analysis by fleet management utilising Teltonika ADAS accessory and FMC125 tracker features. Extensive ADAS solution functionality to serve corporate fleet needs - flexible configuration for a project or business needs, an impressive set of smart warning systems and handy detections on demand to optimise fleet management, lower its running cost, traffic accidents and fines, medical and insurance expenses, and significantly improve ROI.
