Was the cargo exposed to any critical changes? Can data be trusted and verified? For companies transporting temperature-sensitive goods, these questions are business-critical. Reliable temperature data is essential for ensuring product quality, meeting regulations, and protecting reputation. With more companies requiring accurate insights, Bluetooth sensors have become indispensable in logistics, offering real-time monitoring across multiple industries. THE DEMAND FOR TEMPERATURE TRACKING SOLUTIONS IS GROWING Global food and beverage logistics is projected to reach $6.8 trillion by 2031, while pharmaceutical logistics is expected to grow to $154 billion by 2033. These figures reflect the vast scale of shipments where even a small temperature deviation can cause significant losses or compromise product safety. “Tracking temperature is no longer the task of producers alone – it is a shared responsibility across the entire supply chain,” says Gintarė Naraškevičiūtė, operational marketing coordinator at Teltonika. “Each link must ensure that sensitive goods remain within safe conditions.” The rising demand for fresh food and the rapid growth of e-commerce are further increasing the need for dependable monitoring. At the same time, companies face mounting pressure to prevent spoilage, comply with strict regulations, and replace outdated manual checks that are simply too prone to error. Interestingly, monitoring is extending to goods not usually linked to temperature control. “We are seeing companies track products such as electronic components, which can be damaged by excessive heat or cold during transport,” explains Gintarė. All of this demonstrates how broad and vital temperature visibility has become for modern logistics. COLD-CHAIN COMPLIANT DEVICES FOR TEMPERATURE MONITORING To meet the growing demand for reliable temperature-sensitive product monitoring, Teltonika’s telematics division developed a line of Bluetooth EYE Sensors, including standard, ATEX-certified, and EN12830-certified. “For temperature monitoring, EYE Sensor EN12830 is the best choice,” says Donatas Urbonas, project coordinator at Teltonika. “It covers a wide range of use cases in both transportation and storage, making it especially valuable for clients working with perishable goods.” This device was created to meet standardised requirements in cold chain logistics, particularly in Europe’s food sector. It provides additional benefits over the standard model, such as a temperature sensor calibrated in an ISO 17025-certified laboratory with 0.5°C accuracy, internal memory for up to 345 days of logs, and a food-grade casing compliant with European and US Food and Drug Administration regulations. “The certification process is not only about firmware or software,” Donatas explains. “The devices are also tested for vibration, shock, and electromagnetic compatibility to ensure they remain reliable in harsh transport environments.” EN12830 compliance also simplifies audits, as clients can download logged data when required. Combined with real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, and environmental changes, EYE Sensors help companies prevent spoilage by reacting before conditions reach damaging levels. “Installation is extremely simple – no wiring is needed,” Donatas points out. “You can attach the device with a zip tie, tape, or screws and it is ready to use. It can also be delivered preconfigured or placed in hibernation mode to save battery. This way, clients can integrate them with our fleet management devices straight out of the box, without additional effort.” VACCINE STORAGE SOLUTIONS USING EYE SENSORS A Colombian company, NEFOX , specialising in IoT solutions, develops connected technologies and data platforms for multiple industries, including healthcare, needed a reliable real-time monitoring solution to ensure vaccines were stored under optimal conditions and to eliminate the risk of unnoticed temperature deviations in refrigerators and transport units. To safeguard vaccine quality and prevent spoilage, they implemented Teltonika’s FMC130 GPS tracker together with EYE Sensors. The Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) devices were placed inside refrigeration units to continuously monitor temperature, while FMC130 model worked as a gateway to collect this data and transmit it to a cloud-based monitoring system. This solution enabled healthcare personnel to access real-time information remotely. As a result, the company achieved continuous automated temperature monitoring, significantly reducing the risk of vaccine spoilage. It provided peace of mind by helping maintain the integrity of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. Facebook LinkedIn Copy link LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! - Truck and trailer insights directly from the ECU | Teltonika Telematics
Learn how a single FMC650 device provides truck and trailer insights directly from the ECU. This webinar explains how to access engine, braking, tyre and load data through CAN lines, improve heavy fleet efficiency, and simplify maintenance with diagnostics, tachograph options and EBS-based trailer monitoring. MORE articles 16/03/2026 Telematics insights TEMPERATURE MONITORING ACROSS THE SUPPLY CHAIN 12/03/2026 Webinar takeaways WEBINAR TAKEAWAYS: OEM TELEMATICS IN E-MOBILITY INDUSTRY 12/02/2026 Success story REDEFINING VEHICLE SECURITY WITH BACKUP TRACKING WEBINAR TAKEAWAYS: PROVIDING TRUCK & TRAILER INSIGHTS DIRECTLY FROM THE ECU 7 min read 08/12/25 The electronic control unit (ECU) holds key data for understanding vehicle performance, yet many overlook its potential because it seems complex. As a result, telematics providers often depend on multiple devices to achieve complete fleet visibility. In reality, much of the needed data, such as engine temperature or the brake status of a connected trailer, already travels through the truck’s CAN lines. To help businesses make use of this feature, Teltonika hosted a webinar explaining how to access both truck and trailer data with a single FMC650 device. HOW CAN BUS DATA IMPROVES HEAVY FLEET EFFICIENCY? According to the ACEA reports, registrations of heavy vehicles in the European Union fell from 1 million to 800,000 in the first half of 2025. Logistics operators are slowing down the growth of their fleets, and now more than ever, focusing on efficiency. They are looking for solutions that maximise the performance of existing resources. “That is where advanced insights from CAN data come in,” said Kseniya Dolia, chief of the SCOPE operational marketing group. “With precise vehicle information, telematics can help extend vehicle life, simplify compliance, and reduce major operational costs. Most importantly, it enables businesses to make difficult decisions based on reliable data.” WHAT INSIGHTS CAN YOU PROVIDE WITH FMC650? In Teltonika’s wide portfolio, FMC650 stands out for heavy fleet operations. It combines tachograph integration for remote file downloads with two CAN line connections, giving visibility into both truck and trailer performance. Truck insights Integrators can generate eco-driving reports based on FMS CAN data to evaluate how efficiently the driver used the truck’s controls during a trip. “Most trucks are equipped with fuel-saving features such as coasting and cruise control, which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%,” said Marharyta Smolenska, operational marketing coordinator at Teltonika. To quantify the impact of driving style, the device calculates the fuel used, distance travelled, and time spent in each driving state and provides a comprehensive driver behaviour report at end of every trip. For maintenance, FMC650 reads diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) remotely, providing real-time and historical fault data. “This allows fleets to detect issues up to two weeks earlier than the check-engine light, shifting from reactive to proactive maintenance,” noted Marharyta. Trailer insights The key advantage of CAN data reading is that integrators can access communication between the truck and the coupled trailer. “Every trailer is equipped with an Electronic Braking System (EBS) modulator. It controls braking and facilitates communication with the truck. The tracker listens to communication between the truck and the EBS modulator while installed in the truck cabin. This enables monitoring of both units through a single installation,” explained Marharyta. With FMC650 trailer reading functionality, fleets can: Identify the connected trailer VIN for proper coupling Read applied braking forces to optimise maintenance Monitor tyre pressure to reduce fuel consumption Check live trailer weight to improve load accuracy and identify theft Q&A At the end of each of our webinars, we host a live Q&A session. Below, you will find some of the participants’ questions along with answers from our technical expert, Donatas Andriulionis. Does TrailerCAN work with all trailer models and manufacturers? Yes. Installation is carried out in the truck cabin, and the wiring depends on the truck manufacturer. Regardless of the trailer’s origin or model, trucks and trailers are coupled using a standardised protocol to coordinate braking. In other words, trailer information is transmitted through the truck’s CAN lines. For TrailerCAN to function, the trailer must be equipped with an EBS modulator. Most trailers have been fitted with EBS at the factory since around 2005–2008, while older trailers are usually retrofitted with it. Is a connection to two CAN lines enough to implement all three functionalities? Yes, two CAN lines are sufficient. The CAN1 line is used for an alternative FMS connection, providing access to both FMS data and diagnostic messages (DM1/DM2). The CAN2 line is dedicated to collecting trailer data. What level of accuracy is the axle weight possible from the trailer? This information comes through CAN lines, so it must be accurate. However, CAN bus typically transmits data from sensors installed on the trailer, such as air suspension pressure sensors or load sensors. These sensors estimate weight based on pressure or strain, not direct weighing. For air suspension-based systems, the accuracy is usually ±2–5% of the load. In addition to the three functionalities, can I also read tachograph data? Yes, this is possible, but we encountered different implementation scenarios based on the truck model: 1. FMS connection contains both FMS and tacho data on the same bit rate, and trailer data is on the second line. In that case, you won’t have DTC functionality. 2. Read tachograph live data, but downloading DDD files will not be possible. In this case, CAN1 should be used with an alternative FMS connection to receive vehicle CAN data and diagnostic messages, while CAN2 is connected to ECAN02 for trailer data. For tachograph live data, you can connect the K-Line wire. 3. Suitable for VDO tachographs, allows you to receive tachograph data and download DDD files through the front panel via the K-Line. This approach keeps both CAN lines available for FMS, diagnostic trouble codes, and trailer data. 4. Some manufacturers have FMS/Trailer/DTC data on the same “Alternative connection” CAN line - directly on the vehicle ECU. Then one CAN line is used to get FMS/Trailer/DTC, and another CAN is used to connect to the Tachograph to get DDD files and live data. What firmware version supports these functionalities? 03.01.02.rev.06 would be enough to have all the features. In order to get this firmware, you can contact our support via Partner Portal/Helpdesk, and they will provide it unencrypted. Facebook LinkedIn Copy link LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! The legendary Teltonika vehicle GPS tracker FMB920 is gaining momentum and celebrating a new milestone again – 3 million units More News 2/24/2026 TELEMATICS JOURNAL VOL. 9: TAKING THE LEAD 2/4/2026 WEBINAR: OEM TELEMATICS IN E-MOBILITY INDUSTRY 12/9/2025 FT PLATFORM EXPANDS TO NORTH AMERICA THE LEGENDARY FMB920 TRACKER REACHES 3 MILLION INSTALLATIONS 7 September 2022 It took us four years to reach 1 million and only another two years to reach 3 million units deployed. The FMB920 vehicle GPS tracker is gaining momentum and is now celebrating a new milestone that is three times bigger than it was then. In comparison with 2020, it seems that nothing changed – FMB920 talks by itself and without any changes it runs the world with its useful features and benefits that most need. Thus, it was the first device, by which the new era of Teltonika Telematics vehicle GPS trackers began. Besides, it is compact, lightweight, reliable, accurate and enduring, it also was the first with Bluetooth® connectivity, which remarkably increased the number of opportunities for any vehicle telematics business and broaden usage scenarios. What is more, it brought one firmware, one configurator and, later, one remote automatic FMB device firmware and configuration update tool, which is called FOTA WEB , to all Teltonika Telematics devices. It led the way to the higher quality and more convenient use of any Teltonika Telematics vehicle GPS trackers, even though they are not the same in one fleet. We can say that it made life easier for every integrator and end-user and can be described as a legend that everyone talks about. ‘’It’s all about the quality when you talk about FMB920. The quality comes with the simplicity of the device, it's design, manufacturing, and the entire process by which this product is born. With this simplicity, we provide a solution to the challenges that clients encounter. At the time, we were really proud of this time-tested device and were 100% confident that it would address the need for basic fleet tracking. This product is well known in all corners of the telematics business worldwide, and we are equally 100% confident that its 4G brothers will meet the customers' essential needs too.’’ – Konstantin Kolmakov, COO at Teltonika Telematics. The optimisation of the process is very important here. The FMB920 vehicle GPS tracker is assembled on fully robotic state-of-the-art lines. Thanks to it, the demand for this legendary tracker can be met, because more devices are manufactured at the same time – 2 million devices in two years, 3 million FMB920 devices in total! Going further, the automated manufacturing process also adds value by ensuring higher quality without human errors. This is the key, and better still, the FMB920 quality does not match its price – it‘s unquestionable! This vehicle GPS tracker is affordable, so any company can utilise it in their fleet and save resources at a stunning price. This is, probably, the second reason why it has so far reached the 3 million mark. No shortages! Those two words are the third reason for FMB920 success. Teltonika Telematics nurtures high-efficiency risk management in components supply chains. So, in case any disruption appears, our R&D and procurement departments react lightning fast. Therefore, we are always ready to produce the required amounts of FMB920 devices! We also asked Artūras Apolianskas, Head of Embedded Developers division R&D now, and Senior Developer back then, why the FMB920 is such a great success from a developer‘s point of view. ‘’FMB920 was like a foundation for the current Teltonika Telematics GPS trackers. It was the first platform, which brought one firmware to all devices, introduced a universal configurator and was the first with Bluetooth® connectivity. It sounds like nothing special nowadays, but these were some of the major steps which allowed us to deliver significant value to our clients. As I remember back then, we were producing hundreds of thousands of devices and now we are counting millions of them. Why? Because we made fundamental improvements, starting with the FMB920 vehicle GPS tracker.‘‘ What is more, according to market needs, the two new devices – FMC920 and FMM920 were created to meet the need for worldwide use. In fact, they are both like the FMB920, but with different connectivity that is being rolled out globally. The LTE Cat 1 and LTE Cat M1 network versions are particularly suited in industries such as delivery and courier transport, car rental and leasing, stolen vehicle recovery, public safety services, and insurance telematics - which are where the FMB920 is demanded the most. Although the sunset of 2G connectivity is expected to be reached in 2025, the FMC920 with LTE Cat 1 and the FMM920 with LTE Cat M1 models are ready to be tested now and will be available in larger volumes soon. This is because we are taking customer requests into account and making solutions to manage the upcoming changes. The global demand for this product echoes the thoughts that American educator Randy Pausch said: “Experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer”. And it is! The FMB920 is Teltonika Telematics most ‘experienced’ vehicle tracker of all time. We are honoured to offer this device to our customers and to see the value it brings to businesses around the world. - NEW CHAPTER FOR TELTONIKA’S TELEMATICS DIVISION – DARIUS MALIŠAUSKAS APPOINTED AS THE CEO
Teltonika’s telematics division enters a new era with Darius Mališauskas, the new CEO, formerly head of R&D. More News 2/24/2026 TELEMATICS JOURNAL VOL. 9: TAKING THE LEAD 2/4/2026 WEBINAR: OEM TELEMATICS IN E-MOBILITY INDUSTRY 12/9/2025 FT PLATFORM EXPANDS TO NORTH AMERICA NEW CHAPTER FOR TELTONIKA’S TELEMATICS DIVISION – DARIUS MALIŠAUSKAS APPOINTED AS THE CEO 22 July 2025 At Teltonika, change drives innovation, strengthens partnerships, and fuels our global ambitions. Teltonika’s telematics division enters a new era with Darius Mališauskas, the new CEO, formerly head of R&D, who replaces Antanas Šegžda after 5 years of leading the company as one of the world’s top manufacturers in the telematics industry. This change will drive our long-term vision to focus on developing next-generation FT platform products, expand into high-potential markets, and help our business partners grow. With years of experience across technical and leadership roles, Darius brings a fresh and technologically-driven approach to the business. This transition is about building on the strong foundation already in place and enhancing key areas that matter to our clients most. It includes introducing AI-powered tools and smarter processes to strengthen our support and provide even more value. Darius Mališauskas shares his vision in a short interview below. What are your first priorities as the CEO? “Internally, we will adapt and evolve together as one team. For our clients, we will remain a consistent and reliable hardware provider while continuing to improve and innovate behind the scenes. This includes working on the FT platform development roadmap. Some of the trackers are already being tested by clients, and we are using their feedback to enhance device performance. For instance, we have seen notable improvements in the dead reckoning technology. During the Telematics Summit Europe 2025, clients were able to see this feature in action, and their input helps us fine-tune devices before mass production. Another current priority is asset tracking. The market demands novel ideas and a more tailored approach. We see a growing need for new types of devices suited to different use cases. The main idea is to open up more opportunities for our business partners. Working in R&D, I have had the chance to follow closely Teltonika’s telematics technologies through all of the development stages. This experience helps me understand where we can improve, what our clients truly need, and how to guide our teams to turn ideas into reliable, high-performing products.” Looking ahead, where do you see the biggest opportunities for Teltonika’s telematics division? „As transport fleets modernise and digital transformation accelerates, the demand for connected telematics solutions is growing rapidly. We see significant potential in new markets, and we are committed to expanding there. As I mentioned, it will be a technological growth as well by creating products for the new market segments. Today, telematics is more than just knowing a vehicle’s location – it is about the data that drives company growth. Our goal is to help clients identify the insights and features that unlock new possibilities and provide reliable data to support smarter and more informed decisions.” What values do you bring with you into this next chapter? “Throughout my journey at Teltonika, I have always believed that respect and trust are the foundation of growth. When people and teams are empowered, they can achieve what no individual could accomplish alone. I am sure that all people want to do good in their own way, you just have to find the courage to trust them.” LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends!
